Ligue 1 returns with a Friday night clash that sees high-flying Strasbourg take on Lens at 8pm. The visitors got their first win of the season last time out and will be hoping to build on that positive result after a sluggish start.

Strasbourg vs Lens tips:

  • Lens to win at 5/4
  • Wesley Said to score anytime at 12/5

Lens to win

Lens finished just one point short of PSG last term in second place, while Strasbourg finished in 16th, yet their roles have been reversed in the early part of the new campaign. Lens sit third bottom, with one win to their name, whilst Strasbourg are flying high in 6th, having won three from six.

However, on paper Lens boast a stronger squad but one that has undergone a summer rebuild. A youthful recruitment policy has seen the likes of 20-year-old Elye Wahi come into the club, while the outgoing Lois Openda and Seko Fofona are still being missed. This overturn in players and playing style has led to a slow start to the season.

Lens beat Toulouse 2-1 last time out to record their very first win of the season, a dismal showing from a side that pushed PSG all the way last term. However,  that win should be the turning point of their season and they can now look forward. They face an in-form Strasbourg outfit, who haven’t lost any of their last three matches – but ultimately they have the quality on paper to beat them.

The 5/4 on offer is reflective of both their poor start to the season and their superior squad. With a win in the bag, it’s time for Lens to back it up with an impressive away performance.

Wesley Said to score anytime

Wahi was the big forward signing from Montpellier but, as of yet, he hasn’t quite delivered in his new colours. He’s yet to score for Lens and was dropped in the recent win, which opened the door for Wesley Said.

The 28-year-old started up front and scored against Toulouse and manager Franck Haise may well stick with that same winning formula. If he does, the 12/5 on Said to find the net at any time feels generous. By comparison, Wahi is just 15/8 to score anytime and his starting place in the team is far from secure.

I’m happy to take the slight gamble on this one and back Said to start and find the net on Friday night.
