Draw after 90 mins
This Bet Builder looks simple on paper, but that is the point. We start with the ‘shock’ prediction of the bunch which sees us back a draw after 90 minutes. Argentina are the obvious favourites to win this game at 8/11, but I don’t see this one being done in 90 minutes.
I’m not sure Argentina have done enough to warrant being odds-on favourites so far. If we look at their performances on paper, they have been pretty poor throughout - barring the 3-0 win over Algeria in which Messi scored a hat-trick.
He is the deciding factor. He always is. Without rhyme or reason he can produce something unexplainable even at the age of 39. It looked like his World Cup career was over as Argentina were 2-0 down to Egypt with 79 minutes on the clock but he produced a goal and an assist in a superb comeback victory.
Argentina have looked wobbly. Cape Verde took them to extra-time, and two 3-2 progressions in the knockouts do not scream champions to me. They might well win this tie, but I don’t think it will happen in 90 minutes. I wouldn’t want to back against a Switzerland outfit that are unbeaten and came through a tough test with Colombia on penalties.
A draw after 90 minutes feels like the best value for our Bet Builder.
Nico Elvedi 2+ fouls (Sub Switch)
Centre-back Nico Elvedi was at the heart of the action against Colombia, making two fouls and being fouled himself on three occasions. He was also booked in the group stage against Bosnia-Herzegovina and made two fouls against Qatar in a game Switzerland dominated, so I think that he will be susceptible to a couple of fouls against Argentina.
Messi and Co are so tough to stop and I expect the fouls to continue in Kansas.
Lionel Messi 2+ shots on target (Sub Switch)
He’s the focus of everything Argentina do going forward, and so I’ll back Messi to land two shots on target. He had three shots on target against Egypt, including one goal and one missed penalty, while he had nine shots in total against Cape Verde.
He should be able to land another two efforts on goal in this one, even if a goal may evade him against a tough Swiss defence and elite goalkeeper in Gregor Kobel.
Betfred's Sub Switch rolls your bet to the oncoming substitute, so you stay in the game, even when your player doesn’t.
