Newcastle United haven’t won a major domestic trophy since 1955. Later this month, they will face Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final in a bid to end that 70-year wait, but they are also making good progress in the FA Cup this term. Their fifth round tie sees them host fellow Premier League high-flyers Brighton, who dumped Chelsea out in round four.

This one kicks off on ITV1 at 13:45 on Sunday, and should be a top quality clash between two sides that would love cup success this term. Below you can find my Newcastle vs Brighton Bet Builder Tips as we search for a winner.

Newcastle vs Brighton Odds

Draw after 90 minutes

I was so close to backing Brighton to win here at a decent price, but I’ve plumped for a draw after 90 minutes instead. I think these two teams are so well-matched that I can’t see them being separated after 90 minutes. I think there will be goals (more on that shortly), but ultimately I see an entertaining score draw, and extra-time.

Just one point and two places separate them in the Premier League table and Brighton are in terrific form, having won four in a row since they were hammered 7-0 by Nottingham Forest. They look a really strong team right now under Fabian Hurzuler and I do think they can win this tie, but not across the 90 minutes.

Both of these teams have a free midweek after this so we shouldn’t see too much in the case of rotation, and their last two fixtures have finished 0-1 to Brighton, and 1-1. That shows how closely matched these two are, while I can’t help but feel Newcastle will have half an eye on the Carabao Cup final in two weeks. Score draw after 90 for me, with Brighton to progress.

Alexander Isak and Joao Pedro to score anytime

I don’t need to write too much more about Alexander Isak do I? The best striker in the Premier League? Quite possibly on current form. 19 goals in 24 Premier League matches would have him leading the way alongside Erling Haaland for the Golden Boot had it not been for Mo Salah’s freakish campaign.

  • Alexander Isak has scored 19 goals in 24 PL matches
  • Joao Pedro has scored two goals in his last two games for Brighton

While the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea are begging for a world-class striker, Newcastle have got theirs, and he should shine again this weekend. With Callum Wilson only just returning from injury and a week off after this, I don’t believe he will be rotated, and if he’s on the pitch, he should score, simple as that. Meanwhile, my pick from Brighton is the extremely talented Joao Pedro.

The 23-year-old has seven goals and six assists in the Premier League so far this season and while that pales in comparison to Isak, he is in flying form, having struck in each of his last two appearances. I think he can cause Newcastle all sorts of problems here in what should be an open and attacking cup tie. The Brazilian will hope to be the man to fire the Seagulls in the quarter-finals.

Each team over 3.5 corners

Given I’m expecting plenty of attacking action at both ends, it makes sense to look at the corner market as well. Newcastle’s Premier League fixtures have seen an average of 10.8 corners per match, the fourth-highest total in the division, with 5.6 of those coming for the Magpies in each game.

  • Newcastle are averaging 5.6 corners per match this season
  • Brighton are averaging 5 corners per match this season

That’s a healthy total, so I’ve benchmarked our pick as each team to have over 3.5 corners. While Brighton fall below Newcastle for this particular statistic, they are still averaging five corners per Premier League game, and they average 9.9 total corners per league fixture. With the stats backing us, and a thrilling clash on the cards, this looks like a safe pick to boost our odds and takes our Bet Builder to 16/1.
