Toulouse vs Lens Prediction: Edouard to make it an unhappy New Year for hosts

Toulouse welcome table-toppers Lens to Stadium de Toulouse this Friday, January 2 (19:45 GMT Ligue 1+). The hosts are unbeaten in their last three, winning two in a row. But Lens can trump that fine run, boasting six consecutive Ligue 1 victories.

Team News
Toulouse continue without Frank Magri in their frontline. The forward is representing Cameroon at the Africa Cup of Nations.
The home side are also missing midfielder Abu Francis, who is sidelined with a fractured tibia. Toulouse will assess the knock suffered by full back Warren Kamanzi.
Lens are also impacted by Afcon, with Mamadou Sanagre away with Mali.
The Ligue 1 leaders are also likely to be without Jonathan Gradit, who is suffering from a lower leg complaint. Jhoanner Chavez faces a late fitness test after injuring his thigh.
Toulouse vs Lens Predicted Lineups
- Toulouse: Restes; McKenzie, Cresswell, Nicolaisen; Sidibe, Vossah, Casseres, Methalie; Hidalgo, Gboho; Emersonn
- Lens: Risser; Ganiou, Baidoo, Sarr; Aguilar, Sangare, Thomasson, Udol; Thauvin, Said; Edouard
The home side are slight underdogs at 7/4 while surprise package Lens are priced at 8/5. If you fancy the draw, you can back that at 9/4.
Lens to score in both halves is Price Boosted from 9/4 to 5/2. The favourite to get on the scoresheet is Lens wide man Wesley Said. He’s marketed at 7/4 for an anytime strike or 5/1 to net first.
Toulouse vs Lens Stats
- Lens were promoted in the 2019/20 season. If Les Sang et Or lift the Ligue 1 title, it will be the second-quickest rise from promotion to champions in league history. Top of the list are Montpellier, whose 2011/12 triumph came three seasons after they were in Ligue 2.
- Toulouse defender Charlie Cresswell is ranked second in Ligue 1 for aerial duels won, fourth for clearances and fifth for blocks. The Englishman left Leeds United in the summer after just five Championship appearances last season.
Odsonne Edouard anytime goalscorer @ 9/5
Well-known to British fans, the French forward was prolific at Celtic, patchy at Crystal Palace and persona non grata in four appearances at Leicester City.
Edouard is back to his best in his home country, leading the charge as Lens look to upset the established order. His seven goals in 13 games have been a big part of that. I like the 27-year-old to add to his total in Toulouse.

Lens to win @ 8/5
Toulouse are a good side. They’re on a three-game unbeaten run and are playing at their home ground. But I cannot see past the side that have taken Ligue 1 by storm this term. Lens look well-set to extend their run to seven consecutive league victories.
Alongside the aforementioned Edouard there is dangerous winger Said, who has six goals in 16 games this term. Former Newcastle United wide man Florian Thauvin has five in the same amount of appearances.
It is a frontline on form and even a solid side like Toulouse will struggle to keep them out.
