Paris FC vs Lorient Prediction: Promoted sides to produce again in Paris

Ligue 1's Friday night fixture this week pits a pair of promoted clubs, Paris FC and Lorient, who finished second and first, respectively, in Ligue 2 last season, against each other at the Stade Jean Bouin. Both have made solid starts to the campaign, picking up seven points apiece after six games.

Pierre-Yves Hamel (hamstring), Vincent Marchetti and Lohann Doucet (both unspecified) are all doubtful of featuring for Paris FC on Friday after missing multiple matches recently.

Lorient are likely to be without ankle injury victims Nathaniel Adjei, Bandiougou Fadiga and Trevan Sanusi, as well as Isaak Toure (knee) and Panos Katseris (thigh).

Paris are 9/10 to record a second home win of the year over Lorient, implying a 52.6% probability of success, while Lorient are 3/1, or a 25% chance, to triumph on their travels for the first time this season, after beginning the away campaign with two defeats and one draw.

Player to Receive a Card - Pierre Lees-Melou (PAR) @ 3/1

Lees-Melou has averaged 1.6 fouls per game in the last two Ligue 1 seasons, receiving 12 yellows and one red in 29 appearances in 2023/24, and seven cautions in 20 games in 2024/25.

I'm expecting sparks to fly in Paris on Friday, with six yellows and one red issued between the two teams here earlier this year, and six yellows handed out in the reverse fixture last season.

Considering his disciplinary record, and his potential midfield rivals - Lorient's Arthur Avom Ebong has been fouled nine times across five starts this term - the Frenchman is, for me, the standout candidate in the Player to Receive a Card market.

Last season's corresponding fixture produced five goals, with Paris FC claiming all three points in a 3-2 win in March to avenge their 2-0 defeat at the Stade du Moustoir last December.

Ligue 2 champions Lorient scored a division-high 68 goals last season and boasted the best defence, conceding just 31 times in 34 games, with their matches averaging 2.91 goals.

Paris FC scored 55 and conceded 33, averaging 2.58 goals per game.
