Marseille vs Toulouse Prediction: Marseille on way to cup success

With Ligue 1 big-hitters PSG already eliminated from the competition, there is real hope of success for the eight teams left in the Coupe de France.

Chief among those quarter-final contenders are Marseille, who can be considered favourites to lift the cup in the absence of PSG. The Phocaeans host Toulouse at the Stade Velodrome on Wednesday night with a semi-final place on the line.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is suspended after picking up his fifth booking of the season. Leonardo Balerdi is on the sidelines due to a head injury, but Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Mason Greenwood and Ethan Nwaneri are expected to be involved.

Toulouse quartet Rasmus Nicolaisen, Abu Francis, Rafik Messali and Frank Magri are nearing a return, but the trip to Marseille is likely to come too soon.

Cristian Casseres is back from a ban, but may not return to the squad.

Habib Beye picked up his first victory as Marseille manager at the weekend and the Senegalese coach can lead his side to a cup success over Toulouse.

Marseille have been excellent in the Coupe de France this season, beating Rennes 3-0, hammering Bayeux 9-0 and crushing Bourg-Peronnas 6-0.

Of course, Toulouse rate a step up in class from lower-league opposition, but the Phocaeans have settled down following Roberto de Zerbi’s departure and the Olympians are a dangerous attacking unit.

Aubameyang, Greenwood, Amine Gouiri, Nwaneri and Hamed Traore are all available to Beye on Wednesday night and Marseille have shown they do not need a second invitation to put away their opposition this season.

Toulouse are without a win in four matches and have scored only three goals in their last six games.

Le Tefece have lost all of their last three away games and Carles Martínez Novell’s shot-shy side have scored just one goal on that run.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to score first @ 4/1

Aubameyang was the star of the show when hitting two late goals to give Marseille a 3-2 victory over Lyon on Sunday and the former Arsenal man can strike again.

The 36-year-old has hit 12 goals for Marseille this term and that includes finding the net when coming off the bench in the previous round of the Coupe de France.

Greenwood is a big runner in the first goalscorer market too, but there looks to be more value in an Aubameyang punt.
