Lorient vs PSG Prediction: Les Parisiens to shut out the struggling hosts

PSG will look to strengthen their lead at the top of the Ligue 1 table on Wednesday (18:00 GMT) when they travel to strugglers Lorient. The hosts have won just two of their opening nine fixtures and they are up against the side with the second-best attacking record in the division.

Team News

Lorient were hoping they would be able to welcome back Abdoulaye Faye back from a yellow-card ban, but the Bayer Leverkusen loanee is also nursing a foot injury and he is not expected to return to action until December.

Isaac Toure (ACL), Panos Katseris (dead leg), former PSG youngster Bandiougou Fadiga and Newcastle United loanee Trevan Sanusi (both ankle) are also confined to the treatement room.

Bamo Meite was withdrawn at half time in Sunday's defeat at Angers, so Igor Silva may be deployed in the back line backline if the former is another to be ruled out.

Football Odds

There will be no Achraf Hakimi for PSG here as he has been given a well-earned rest. As the only recognised right-back in the squad, though, we may see Warren Zaire-Emery take on a makeshift role in defence on Wednesday.

Joao Neves (thigh) and Fabian Ruiz (groin) are both nearing returns from their injury problems and may be in a position to make the bench for this clash.

Lorient are without a win in their last three league appearances and they are 10/1 to stun PSG on home soil.

The draw is valued at 5/1, with PSG experiencing two stalemates in their past three Ligue 1 fixtures. The visitors are 1/4 to come away with the three points.

Les Parisiens are 6/5 (implied probability of 45.5%) to win to nil, which they have managed on five occasions in the league this term. It is also 21/20 for PSG to keep a clean sheet.

The last thing Lorient need right now is to face the attacking might of PSG, who have recently welcomed back some of their key attacking stars from injury. This includes Ballon d'Or winner Ousmane Dembele, who is expected to lead the charge for Luis Enrique's side on Wednesday.

The visitors may not be leading the way in terms of goals, with their tally of 19 the second-best in the division, but they do boast the joint-best defensive record in the top flight, having only been breached eight times in nine matches.

I think there is value backing the defending champions to win to nil here, like they have done five times already in Ligue 1 this term. Lorient have blanked in two of their last three fixtures, with the latest contest seeing them fail to score against fellow strugglers Angers.

It is hard to see the hosts laying a glove on PSG in this game and I am backing the visitors to record a comfortable victory.

When it comes to PSG, in most gameweeks it is very much a take your pick of potential goalscorers because they have players across all areas of the pitch who can chip in.

You have the likes of Dembele, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Achraf Hakimi and Bradley Barcola to name a few. But the person I am looking at to find the net on Wednesday is Desire Doue.

The young attacker is one of the brightest talents in the world and he is already making himself a key component of PSG's attack at the age of 20. His start to the season has been hindered by injury, limiting him to five appearances in Ligue 1. The Frenchman has one goal in the top flight so far, which came in stoppage time at Brest last time out.

And before that, Doue bagged a brace in the 7-2 thumping of Bayer Leverkusen in the Uefa Champions League, so he is coming into this game in fine form and should be feeling very confident. I think the 13/10 price for him to strike in a third consecutive game is too good to miss.
