Mexico vs England Odds

England to win

All the build up to this game has been about the altitude, and how England will cope with what are truly testing circumstances. Playing a host nation is never easy, but playing Mexico in Mexico City is something else. Their fans are set to create a raucous atmosphere and they have won all four fixtures at this tournament.

There’s a lot of valid reasons to back Mexico to win this game, especially given England’s struggles at various points in North America. If you are taking that side of the fence, that’s fine. But not me.

This is England. This is where it truly matters. Yes, the defence is a bit wobbly and we still don’t know our best team. But I believe. Harry Kane is dragging this team forward by the scruff of its neck and Jude Bellingham is everywhere. England are better man-for-man on paper and even if they can’t breathe, I’m backing them to battle through and get the job done.

Harry Kane to score (Sub Switch)

Obviously. What Kane did against DR Congo was simply marvellous. England needed their captain to produce something special and that he did, first heading in Anthony Gordon’s cross before firing a special strike into the roof of the net.

Kane now has 13 World Cup goals to his name, more than Pele, and I think he can bag another in one of the most iconic stadiums in the world.

With Betfred's new 'Sub Switch' feature, if your player gets substituted at any point in the match, your selection is switched to the next player!

Jordan Pickford 3+ saves

The next few selections are all suggesting that Mexico are likely to create a fair few chances against this England side. They’ve looked good going forward so far and it means that Jordan Pickford is set to be a busy man.

He was partly at fault for DR Congo’s opener, but made one other save, while he also made two saves against Panama. He has to switch on for this test as Mexico are likely to start very quickly, and they aren’t shy about getting shots off. They’ve had at least three shots on target in each of their World Cup matches, and I think that will continue here.

Let’s just hope Pickford can stop them.

Julian Quinones 1+ shot on target (Sub Switch)

Mexico’s brightest spark has been Al-Qadsiah winger Julian Quinones. He has been such a threat for the hosts, scoring three goals in four World Cup games, including the opening goal of the tournament vs South Africa.

He only had one shot against Ecuador but it flew into the top corner, and he'll certainly want to test Pickford in this one.

Gilberto Mora 2+ fouls won

Mexico’s 17-year-old star is a difficult man to handle in midfield, and he won two fouls vs Ecuador. He won one foul against Czech Republic and I think England are going to have to be fairly robust with the way they deal with the young man. Two or more fouls feels likely.
