Mexico vs England Odds

Match Result - England

I know England will be up against Mexico's formidable record at the Azteca, but I'm going back the boys to book their place in the quarter-finals.

It's worth noting that the aforementioned record, whilst impressive, is overblown - England are the first top-10 ranked nation to visit the stadium since 2003 to put it into context.

While Harry Kane did save our bacon against DR Congo, I believe we'll see a much-improved performance from the Three Lions on Monday morning. Kane is the best striker in the world at the moment, in my opinion, so we've got every chance of winning with him fit and firing.

I'm not disputing that this will be a tough fixture, but Thomas Tuchel's side should have enough quality to book their place into the next round.

Over 2.5 goals (90 minutes)

I do think Monday's contest will serve up plenty of goals. This has landed in two of England's games so far - the opener against Croatia and the last-32 clash with DR Congo - and it was a goal shy of landing in the final group match against Panama.

Over 2.5 goals has landed in just one of Mexico's matches - the 3-0 win over Czech Republic - but Javier Aguirre's side are yet to concede a goal at this tournament. You know what they say - there's a first time for everything...

Elliot Anderson to be carded (Sub Switch)

Elliot Anderson, who's recently made his big-money move to Manchester City, has yet to be booked at this World Cup, but I think that run comes to an end on Monday.

The 23-year-old is averaging 1.60 fouls per 90 minutes, and he'll be up against the likes of Erik Lira and Gilberto Mora in the midfield battle, who are both winning at least one foul per game.

If the altitude difference gets to him, the fatigue and humidity may lead him to put in a few lazy tackles, and lead to being shown a card.

Harry Kane to have 2+ shots on target (Sub Switch)

The man of the moment for England, I'm backing Kane to fire off a couple of efforts on goal once again on Monday.

Of course, he netted twice against DR Congo, and he's scored five of England's eight goals, so that would suggest he's bound to get a few opportunities to test the goalkeeper here.

The England skipper has registered nine shots on target across England's four games so far, which averages out at 2.29 per 90 minutes. With the form he's in, let's back the captain to have two or more attempts on target here.
