England have the chance to book their place in the quarter-finals of the World Cup, but the small matter of an Azteca Stadium clash with Mexico stands in the way of the Three Lions.

Team News

Mexico have a clean bill of health ahead of their last-16 tie with England and youngster Gilberto Mora is set to continue in midfield, with Raul Jimenez leading the line.

Thomas Tuchel has a number of selection issues. Reece James and Jarell Quansah are struggling with injuries, which could mean that Djed Spence continues at right-back.

There is also the possibility of Ezri Konsa moving across to full-back or Declan Rice filling in.

In attack, Bukayo Saka and Anthony Gordon are likely to replace Marcus Rashford and Noni Madueke in wide areas.

Mexico vs England Predicted Lineups

  • Mexico: Rangel; Sanchez, Montes, Vasquez, Gallardo; Romo, Lira, Mora; Alvarado, Jimenez, Quinones
  • England: Pickford; Spence, Konsa, Guehi, O'Reilly; Anderson, Rice; Saka, Bellingham, Gordon; Kane

Mexico vs England Stats

  • Mexico have won all four World Cup matches, scoring eight goals without conceding
  • England have conceded in two of their four tournament matches so far
  • Harry Kane surpassed Pele with 13 career World Cup goals after his brace against DR Congo

England to beat Mexico in 90 minutes @ 7/5

Much have been made of Mexico's home advantage and the altitude England will face at the Azteca Stadium, but those factors look to have been overplayed in the market.

England have a vastly superior squad, which is encapsulated by Ballon d'Or favourite Harry Kane leading the Three Lions' attack, while Mexico will field Raul Jimenez in the same position.

The results of Thomas Tuchel's side have not been entirely convincing, but England have registered expected goals numbers of 3.20, 1.36, 1.56 and 2.16 in their four World Cup matches, while allowing only 10 shots on target.

Mexico have yet to even concede a goal at the summer showdown, but the opposition has been weak and this is the first time El Tri meet top-level opponents.

England have Declan Rice, Elliot Anderson and Jude Bellingham to dominate midfield and control the Azteca contest and the Three Lions are ready to roar.

Harry Kane to score 2+ goals @ 15/2

Harry Kane has scored five goals in four World Cup matches, with the 32-year-old scoring a brace in games against Croatia and DR Congo.

The Bayern Munich man rescued the Three Lions in their last-32 tie with DR Congo and Kane needs only a glimmer of a chance to find the net.

The former Spurs striker will be on penalty-taking duty for England at the Azteca and the 15/2 on offer about Kane scoring two or more goals against Mexico looks a nice price.

Mexico vs England Result Prediction

  • Mexico 1-3 England

As mentioned above, much has been made of Mexico's record at the Azteca but it's been overplayed.

England have a vastly superior squad spearheaded by the best striker in the world in Kane. The likes of Anderson, Rice and Bellingham should win the midfield battle, and send England on their way to the quarter-finals.
