Argentina made it through another breathless World Cup knockout match as Lionel Messi inspired a late comeback against Egypt, while Switzerland won a World Cup penalty shootout against a fancied Colombia outfit.

They meet in Kansas City (8pm local Saturday, 2am Sunday BST, ITV1), and below you can find the latest Argentina vs Switzerland Predicted Lineups & Team News.

Argentina

Messi was in tears at full-time in the win over Egypt, having missed what looked to be a crucial penalty in the first half. Lionel Scaloni started Nicolas Tagliafico, Leandro Paredes and Julian Alvarez against Egypt, but a poor performance on the whole followed so changes could be made.

Lautaro Martinez is likely to start up top with Messi, while Alexis Mac Allister, Rodrigo De Paul and Enzo Fernandez will play in a narrow midfield. Gonzalo Montiel could feature at right back while Juventus’ Nicolas Gonzalez may be recalled to provide some width on the left of midfield - something that was crucially lacking against the Pharaohs.

The defensive unit of Emiliano Martinez, Cristian Romero and Lisandro Martinez should stay unchanged despite a less than convincing showing in the last 16. Argentina will have to find a more successful formula if they are to win this World Cup, but for now, they keep on winning.

Switzerland

Switzerland boss Murat Yakin saw his side get the better of Colombia on penalties, and after an exhausting 120 minutes, he could be tempted into a couple of changes. Djibril Sow replaced Ardon Jashari at half-time and could take his spot in the starting XI, while Miro Muheim came on for Ricardo Rodriguez in the second half.

It is hard to imagine that back four being changed after another clean sheet, with Nico Elvedi and Manuel Akanji playing at centre back and Denis Zakaria will feature at right back.

Zakaria, Muheim and captain Granit Xhaka are all at risk of suspension and will miss the semi-final if they get booked and Switzerland progress. Borussia Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel will hope for another clean sheet.

Argentina vs Switzerland Key Players:

Key Player - Lionel Messi (Argentina)

Not quite a one-man show for Argentina, but not far off. Messi is leading the way in the race for the Golden Boot with eight goals in five games so far, and he turned up when his country needed him most at 2-0 down. One goal and one assist dragged his side level, but Fernandez scored the late winner.

Messi’s powers are waning, but he is still the GOAT. Winning another World Cup feels like a step too far, but he will certainly have a big say in this one.

Key Player - Breel Embolo (Switzerland)

Breel Embolo has had a good World Cup so far, scoring two and bagging two assists so far. I think Switzerland’s best chance of winning this one is to attack this dodgy Argentine defence, and Embolo could cause Martinez and Romero plenty of issues.
