Carlo Ancelotti's second spell as Real Madrid head coach came to an end following a 2-0 win over Real Sociedad on May 24, but on Friday (00:00 BST, Premier Sports 1), the 65-year-old resumes his managerial career in Guayaquil, where Brazil, who have signed the Italian tactician to a one-year contract, take on Ecuador.

Below are my Ecuador vs Brazil predictions, complete with all the latest team news and match odds, ahead of this 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifier at the Estadio Monumental Banco Pichincha.

Team News

Brazil-based forwards Enner Valencia (Internacional) and Gonzalo Plata (Flamengo) were called up to Ecuador's squad for this month's World Cup qualifiers against Brazil and Peru, but Plata (knee) pulled out on Wednesday, and head coach Sebastian Beccacece is sweating over the fitness of Valencia.

Valencia, his captain and the country's all-time leading scorer, is three caps shy of reaching a century, but has missed Internacional's last six matches with a hamstring strain.

Football Odds

Meanwhile, Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo links up with his national teammates after a superb individual season with the Blues, capped off with team success in the Uefa Conference League final.

Caicedo will once again play a key role in the middle of the park for La Tri, and he's expected to be joined in the starting XI on Friday by Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie, Brighton left-back Pervis Estupinan and Paris Saint-Germain centre-back Willian Pacho, who helped his side to lift their first-ever Uefa Champions League trophy last weekend.

Leonardo Campana (New England Revolution) and Angelo Preciado (Sparta Prague), who missed Ecuador’s last double header of qualifiers in March with injuries, are both back in Beccacece's squad.

Ecuador vs Brazil Stats

  • Ecuador are unbeaten at home in 2026 World Cup qualifying (W5, D2)
  • Brazil have only won two of their seven away qualifiers
  • Joel Ordonez (ECU) was booked in Ecuador's last game

A whole host of Premier League players have been left out of Ancelotti's first Brazil squad, with Brighton forward Joao Pedro, Nottingham Forest defender Murillo, and Wolves midfield duo Joao Gomes and Andre all snubbed by the five-time Champions League-winning boss.

Injury and a lack of fitness have been attributed to the absences of Rodrygo, Eder Militao and Neymar, while Vinicius Jr. is the only current Real Madrid player called up by his former club boss, with teenage forward Endrick left out.

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro, who starred under Ancelotti at Real Madrid, has been brought back into the fold, and his new Red Devils teammate, Matheus Cunha, is also included, as is Antony, who impressed on loan at Real Betis following a tumultuous time at Old Trafford.

Ecuador vs Brazil Odds

Ecuador are yet to lose at home in this qualification campaign, yet La Tri are the 23/10 underdogs for this one, implying a 30.3% probability of success. Brazil, meanwhile, are 23/20, or a 46.5% chance, to claim all three points in Guayaquil, with the draw priced at 2/1.

Both teams to score is available at 1/1, over 2.5 total goals at 11/8, and a repeat of the reverse fixture's scoreline in September, Brazil 1-0, is on offer at 5/1. The hosts are 15/2 to reverse that scoreline on Friday.

Valencia (9/4) heads the anytime goalscorer market, with Tottenham Hotspur forward Richarlison and Vinicius Jr. (both 12/5) first up for the visitors.

Bet Builder - Ecuador or Draw (Double Chance) & Under 3.5 (Total Goals Over/Under 3.5) @ 1/1

Ecuador are unbeaten in their first seven home 2026 World Cup qualifiers, taking 17 points from 21 on offer (five wins, two draws). Only Colombia and Paraguay (both 0-0) have managed to avoid defeat away to La Tri so far, with Uruguay (2-1) the highest-profile victims so far.

Next up for Ecuador is the visit of Brazil, who, on paper, represent their toughest assignment so far.

It's been a far from impressive qualification campaign from the Selecao, whose head coach Dorival Jr. was sacked in March following a 4-1 thrashing by bitter rivals Argentina. After 14 rounds of fixtures, the five-time World Cup winners are fourth, two points behind second-place Ecuador and 10 adrift of leaders Argentina.

However, the nation should be buoyed by the appointment of Ancelotti, who has presided over so much success as a club manager in Europe. Crucially, he has worked with several of Brazil's squad, notably Vinicius Jr., at Real Madrid, and so isn't tasked with raising the level of a completely new crop of players.

Still, one would imagine that it will take the Italian tactician a little bit of time to get things going as he would like, with an adjustment period expected.

Ecuador away isn't the easiest opening fixture, either, given La Tri's excellent home record in this qualification campaign, not to mention Brazil's poor form on their travels. The Selecao have only won two of their seven away qualifiers, losing four of their last six, and historically, have struggled in Ecuador, winning just one of their six qualifiers in the country.

Two of the last three meetings between the two countries in Ecuador have finished 1-1, including the latest one, in Quito in January 2022, and it wouldn't be a shock to see that scoreline repeated on Friday.

Given Ecuador's home record, Brazil's struggles and the appointment of a new manager, backing the hosts on the double chance would be the smart move at 4/6. I'm adding in under 3.5 total goals, too, to lift the odds to EVS.

La Tri have witnessed just 18 goals in 14 qualifiers (1.3 per game), and 12 in seven at home (1.7 p/g). Only one of their games, a 4-0 home annihilation of Bolivia, who went down to 10 men after 24 minutes in Guayaquil last November, have produced over 3.5 goals, and 10 have seen two or fewer strikes.

Meanwhile, Brazil's first six away qualifiers went under 3.5 goals, so it's hard to imagine too many successful efforts on Friday.

Player to Receive a Card - Joel Ordonez (ECU) @ 9/5

Club Brugge defender Joel Ordonez only made his national team debut last year but has now started Ecuador's last four World Cup qualifiers.

The 21-year-old, a centre-back by trade, was deployed at right-back against Bolivia, Colombia and Venezuela before operating as a right-sided defender in a back three against Chile last time out.

Ordonez picked up his first yellow card for La Tri in that goalless draw with La Roja, making two fouls in total. He also gave away a couple of free-kicks against Bolivia and Venezuela, contributing to his fouls-per-game average of 1.5, which is up from his average of 0.8 for Club Brugge in this season's Belgian Pro League, a competition in which he was cautioned five times in 2024/25.

On Friday, the Guayaquil-born man is likely to be tasked with containing the superstar talents of Vinicius Jr., who is averaging 1.9 fouls won per game in qualifying (2.3 per game in this season's La Liga).

The Real Madrid winger spends most of his time patrolling the left wing, and so he's expected to be running at Ecuador's right-sided defenders, of which Ordonez is one, marking the Club Brugge ace out as a standout candidate in the player card market.
