Coventry City's unbeaten home record under Frank Lampard came to an end on Wednesday as they fell to a 2-0 defeat to Championship leaders Leeds United. The Sky Blues now turn their attention to the FA Cup fourth round, where they welcome Premier League Ipswich Town to the CBS Arena on Saturday (15:00).

The visitors have suffered four league defeats in a row and they are in need of some relief from their struggles in the top flight. Read on for my Coventry City vs Ipswich Town prediction, accompanied by the latest match odds and team news.

Coventry City vs Ipswich Town Betting Tips

  • Ipswich and both teams to score @ 16/5
  • Liam Delap anytime goalscorer @ 11/8

Coventry City vs Ipswich Town Odds

Coventry have won four of their eight home games (in 90 mins) across all competitions under Lampard, and they are 21/10 to win in regulation time on Saturday.

They have experienced two stalemates in that time, including their third-round tie with Sheffield Wednesday, which went to extra time. The draw is marketed at 12/5 in CV6.

Ipswich have won just one of their past six matches in all competitions but they head to the West Midlands with fresher legs than the hosts. They are 13/10 (which has an implied probability of 43.5%) to prevail at the CBS.

Both teams to score has been a successful bet in Ipswich's previous two league appearances, and this market is on offer at 4/6.

Team News

Coventry are unable to call upon January addition Matt Grimes, who is cup-tied having represented Swansea City in the last round. With Ben Sheaf still in the medical bay with a muscle problem, the Sky Blues' current options are Jamie Allen, Jack Rudoni, Victor Torp and Josh Eccles.

The latter has had to settle for a place on the bench in recent weeks, but this game may present him with a rare start. Attackers Haji Wright (knock) and Ephron Mason-Clark (hamstring) remain out with issues of their own.

Ellis Simms and Brandon Thomas-Asante have been performing well for the Sky Blues in their absence, but the latter was withdrawn at half-time against Leeds last time out, but it was not thought to be injury related.

Norman Bassette would offer a different dynamic in the final third, and it was his spot-kick against Sheffield Wednesday that sealed Coventry's place in the fourth round.

Ipswich have a cup-tied player of their own in Brighton & Hove Albion loanee Julio Enciso, but fellow January additions Jaden Philogene and Alex Palmer are permitted to feature in CV6.

Palmer could be thrown in goal straight away to make his Tractor Boys debut with Christian Walton out injured for a number of weeks, while Arijanet Muric has made critical errors throughout the season.

Conor Chaplin and Wes Burns are both out with knee injuries and the latter has been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign. Chiedozie Ogbene (Achilles) is another whose season looks to be over, while Sammie Szmodics is suffering with an ankle problem.

Ipswich and both teams to score @ 16/5

Ipswich's return to the Premier League has not been as enjoyable as they hoped it would be. They currently find themselves three points adrift of safety and as I mentioned earlier, their recent form has been concerning.

Kieran McKenna and his players will welcome a game away from the league this weekend as it will give them the chance to restore some confidence to their play. Their next run of fixtures in the top flight look challenging as they face the likes of Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest.

Ipswich could benefit from ending their losing streak in Coventry, and their chances are favourable because their hosts were in action in midweek. I've been impressed with the Sky Blues' recent form under Lampard but the defeat against Leeds, which ended his unbeaten record at home, may leave his team vulnerable on Saturday.

That's why I think backing the visitors to win in 90 mins could be a sensible selection here, but I've boosted the odds by adding BTTS because the Tractor Boys have shipped 12 goals in their last three appearances, while Coventry have blanked in just one of their past eight outings in all competitions.

Liam Delap anytime goalscorer @ 11/8

The 2024/25 season hasn't yielded much success for Ipswich so far but a bright spark for them has been Liam Delap. The striker has been increasing his transfer value at Portman Road with nine goals in 23 Premier League matches.

The former Manchester City man was on the scoresheet in last weekend's defeat against fellow strugglers Southampton, and getting him back into a scoring rhythm might give the Tractor Boys the lift they need to help turn their fortunes around in the top flight.

Delap has faced Coventry four times in his career but is yet to score against them, so I feel like one is overdue.
