Newcastle vs PSV Stats
- Joelinton (NEW) is averaging 2.4 fouls p/90 (UCL)
- Bruno Guimaraes (NEW) has recorded 2+ tackles in his last four PL apps
- Barnes (NEW) is averaging 2.4 shots on target p/90 (UCL)
- Veerman (PSV) has received five yellows this season (one in UCL)
Bet Builder - Joelinton (NEW) 2+ Fouls, Bruno Guimaraes (NEW) 2+ Tackles & Harvey Barnes (NEW) 1+ Shots on Target @ 21/10
Newcastle midfielder Joelinton has committed eight fouls across five Champions League appearances (four starts) this season, averaging 2.4 fouls per 90 minutes.
The Brazilian’s compatriot and close midfield colleague, Bruno Guimaraes, is ‘only’ averaging 1.2 tackles per game in Europe this term, but he’s averaging 2.1 tackles per game in the Premier League, recording 13 across his last four outings in the English top flight (2+ in each).
Magpies winger Harvey Barnes, meanwhile, has shone in this season’s Champions League, scoring four times in six games (four starts) and averaging 2.4 shots on target per 90.
Player to Receive a Card - Joey Veerman (PSV) @ 18/5
Newcastle possess plenty of players who are proficient at drawing fouls, including starting midfield trio Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton, who are averaging 2.2, 1.8 and 0.9 fouls won per 90, respectively, in this season’s Champions League.
Reserve midfielders Jacob Ramsey and Joe Willock, who have only started one game apiece in Europe this season, making a further three and two substitute appearances, respectively, have won five fouls between them (Ramsey - three, Willock - two).
In Newcastle’s first European outing of the campaign, a 2-1 home defeat to FC Barcelona, visiting defender Gerard Martin was booked for fouling Bruno Guimaraes before Tonali attracted yellow-card challenges from midfielders Fermin Lopez and Frenkie de Jong, while another midfielder, Marc Casado, came off the bench and was cautioned for taking down Malick Thiaw.
Against Union Saint-Gilloise, midfielders Marc Giger and Kamiel Van de Perre were booked for fouling Tonali, while against Olympique Marseille, defenders Leonardi Balerdi and Emerson were shown yellows for upending Willock, and in the same game, midfielder Arthur Vermeeren was cautioned for an unfair challenge on Ramsey.
So, between them, Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes, Ramsey and Willock have drawn eight yellow-card fouls in Europe, and of those eight players booked, five were midfielders, so it makes sense to back someone in the PSV engine room in the Player to Receive a Card market at St James’.
I’m going for Dutchman Joey Veerman, who has been booked four times in 18 Eredivisie appearances, and once in six Champions League games, this season.
The 27-year-old was shown two yellows in the 2024/25 league phase, including one against Newcastle’s Premier League rivals, Liverpool.
