Two of the three highest scoring teams in the league phase of the Champions League clash on the final matchday.

Barcelona and Atalanta are both in the top eight heading into the game, but the visitors may need to win in the Catalan capital if they want to stay there and secure direct passage into the round-of-16. That should be the recipe for an entertaining clash at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.

There’s less pressure on Barcelona, with Hansi Flick’s side already guaranteed to finish in the top eight. A win would ensure that Barça end up in the top two which should bring advantages later on in the competition. A point is also likely to be enough, with a 1st or 2nd place finish meaning they could not face tournament favourites Liverpool until the final.

Barcelona have scored 26 goals already in the Champions League this season, seven more than any other club. They’ve also netted 29 in their seven competitive matches so far in 2025, including seven in the demolition of Valencia at the weekend in La Liga.

Flick would have been pleased to finally get a league win, after a really poor run of results in the Spanish top flight. He’d also have been again encouraged by his team’s ability to score plenty of goals without Robert Lewandowski in the starting lineup, with Ferran Torres doing a good job of leading the line.

Fringe players Frenkie de Jong and Fermín López were also on the scoresheet as a rotated side ran riot against admittedly poor opposition. That result came on the back of a wild night in Lisbon, as Barça came from two down to win 5-4 against Benfica, to make it six victories out of seven so far in this competition.

That’s certainly a very positive development on Barcelona’s journey back towards being a major European force again. Some would argue that they are already there, but it doesn’t take a genius to figure out where their flaws lie, with Barça’s defensive record only the joint-17th best in the league phase of the Champions League.

There’s every chance there could be further damage to their goals against column here, with Atalanta having netted 18 times in their seven Champions League matches this term.

Having sealed a brilliant Europa League triumph last season, Gian Piero Gasperini’s side now have to be viewed as a genuine force to be reckoned with on the European stage. They are riding high in the top four of Serie A again too, so it’s shaping up to be an exciting second half of the season for the Bergamo-based club.

A bit like Barça, their domestic form did dip around the turn of the year, although they ended a five-game winless streak in all competitions, with a dominant 5-0 victory over Sturm Graz in the Champions League last week.

Mateo Retegui set the ball rolling with the opening goal that night, and he continued his stunning season by scoring his 18th and 19th Atalanta goals of the campaign, in the 2-1 win at Como on Saturday in Serie A.

While Atalanta did only manage five attempts on goal in that game, they have been a devastating attacking force at times this season. That threat has centred around Retegui, Ademola Lookman and Charles De Ketelaere, with the trio netting a combined total of 44 goals in all competitions.

Team News:

Barcelona are missing long-term absentees Marc-André ter Stegen and Marc Bernal, as well as Andreas Christensen and Íñigo Martínez here. The game may also come too soon for Dani Olmo, although the summer signing is nearing fitness again.

Flick has surprised many by persisting with Wojciech Szczęsny in goal, despite a really unconvincing start to his Barça career. Iñaki Peña will be hoping for another opportunity here, with some rotation expected from the weekend lineup. That may include a rest for either Raphinha or Lamine Yamal.

As for Atalanta, they are sure to go as strong as possible, as they target a top eight finish. They’ve been dealt a major blow though, with Lookman picking up an injury in training this week that is set to rule him out of the game. Mario Pasalic may take his place.

Gianluca Scamacca and Odilon Kossounou are also missing through injury. Meanwhile, the visitors are optimistic that Marten de Roon will be fit, despite suffering a head injury at Como at the weekend.

Barcelona vs Atalanta Odds

Barcelona start as the 8/11 favourites to get the win that would ensure they finish in at least 2nd place. Atalanta can be backed at 100/30 to seal a priceless three points, while the Draw is also on offer at 100/30.

There’s certainly reason to expect goals in this match and the odds reflect that. Both teams to score is very short at 2/5, while you can back Over 3.5 goals at 10/11. Over 5.5 goals has landed in four of Barça’s last five matches, and a repeat is priced at 9/2 here.

Robert Lewandowski is the 7/2 favourite to score first. He’s also available at 4/5 to score anytime, while you can back Raphinha to add to his eight-goal Champions League haul and score anytime at 13/10.

If you’re anticipating another big win for the Catalans, Barcelona and Over 3.5 goals is on offer at 2/1, while you can back Barcelona -1.00 Handicap at 13/8.

Alternatively, you can back Draw or Atalanta at 11/10 in the Double Chance market. The Italians are also available at 5/4 to win either half, while you can back Over 1.5 away goals at 6/5.

Bet 1 - Both teams to score 2 or more goals @ 9/4

It’s difficult to imagine a scenario where this match doesn’t produce goals. Barcelona are playing in a very open way under Flick, with risks being taken that have enabled them to sustain a huge attacking threat, although there have been cracks at the back, particularly since the loss of Iñigo Martínez to injury.

The fact that Atalanta almost certainly need to chase the victory here, with one point highly unlikely to be enough for a top eight finish, also adds to the sense that this will be an end-to-end affair with lots of chances.

After their nine-goal thriller last week in Portugal, I expect the goals to flow in another Barcelona Champions League game, and I’m backing Both teams to score two or more goals at 9/4.

Barcelona vs Atalanta - Both Teams to Score 2 or More Goals Yes

Bet 2 - Mateo Retegui to score anytime @ 8/5

The likelihood that Flick will seek to manage the workload of his key forward players, suggests there may be more sense in looking to the visitors for an anytime goalscorer bet in this game.

The obvious candidate is certainly Retegui. The Italian international is having a remarkable season and he takes great form into this match, having scored in each of his last four appearances to take his tally to 19 goals in all competitions for Atalanta this term.

Even against Valencia at the weekend in a game they dominated, Barcelona looked vulnerable defensively and allowed their opponents far too much space at times. A repeat here should serve up opportunities for the visiting striker and I'm backing Mateo Retegui to score anytime at 8/5.
