Football Bet of the Day: High-scoring affair fancied between duo

Manchester United and Chelsea endured disappointing results over the weekend and will be hoping to bounce back as they face each other at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have struggled to make any progress under Mauricio Pochettino and remain in the bottom half of the Premier League table after drawing 2-2 with the ten men of Burnley on Saturday.

They take on a Manchester United side that were extremely lucky to get a point from their trip to Brentford at the weekend, conceding 31 shots in a 1-1 draw.

In the not too distant past Manchester United and Chelsea were battling it out for Premier League titles, but their struggles in recent years means they are closer to the battle for the Europa Conference League than the top of the table this time around.

Chelsea’s prolific spending has failed to put together a squad that can challenge the fellow big six teams and they are currently in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

After managing to keep things relatively tight at the start of the campaign, Chelsea’s defence has become a real issue in recent weeks.

The Blues have conceded at least two goals in their last five matches in all competitions and they have not kept a clean sheet in their last 11 outings.

Pochettino’s side were pegged back twice by ten-man Burnley at the weekend to draw 2-2 and that means that six of their last eight Premier League games have gone over 3.5 goals.

They are taking on a Manchester United side that have also been involved in some entertaining affairs in recent weeks, including a dramatic 4-3 win over Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Erik Ten Hag’s men were extremely fortunate to take a point from their 1-1 draw with Brentford at the weekend, conceding 3.2 expected goals, 31 shots and 14 corners to the Bees.

The issues that have plagued the visitors this season have clearly not been fully resolved and they have struggled to contain their opponents.

Considering the clear problems that both of these sides have, it’s not hard to see that goals look likely.

In the last five meetings between the two sides, both teams have scored and they should play their part in an entertaining affair.
