Liverpool (H) to beat Chelsea (12:30 BST) @ 9/10
Backing Liverpool right now doesn’t feel amazing, but I have to back Arne Slot’s men to get a win against a Chelsea side that seemingly can’t win a game. The visitors have lost their last six games in a row in the Premier League, and they were hammered by a changed Nottingham Forest XI last time out.
Liverpool lost to Manchester United at Old Trafford, but they had won back-to-back games prior to that, and should be able to heap misery onto Chelsea as they target a Champions League qualification spot.
Middlesbrough vs Southampton (12:30 BST) - Over 2.5 goals @ 11/10
A tantalising Championship play-off semi-final comes our way on Saturday lunchtime as Middlesbrough host Southampton at the Riverside and I’m expecting fireworks. Southampton are on fire, unbeaten in 19 league outings and have scored 82 goals this season, while Boro have fired in 72 of their own.
First legs can be cagey, but I don’t think either side will hold back in this one. Boro will be desperate to take a lead down to St Mary’s, and I think over 2.5 goals is a good price for this semi-final.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
Stevenage vs Stockport (15:00 BST) - Under 2.5 goals @ 4/6
The opposite applies as Stevenage host Stockport in League 1. Stevenage made it into the top six on the final day and have a distinct style of play which should continue into these play-offs. They’ve scored 49 and conceded just 46 across the 46-game league season, focusing on set-pieces and the tight margins.
Stockport have experienced play-off pain in recent years, but should be happy to get them back to Edgeley Park with the scores level. Under 2.5 goals is my pick.
Bolton (H) to beat Bradford (20:00 BST) @ 9/10
Bolton Wanderers host Bradford City in the other League 1 semi, and I’m going to back the hosts to win this first leg. Just two points separated these two in the final table, but Bolton scored 12 more goals than the Bantams, and I feel a raucous home crowd will be the deciding factor in this one.
Hearts (A) to beat Motherwell (20:00 BST) @ 6/4
Can Hearts take another step towards the title? Their late 2-1 win over Rangers last time out felt seismic and now they are just three games away from glory. With the Gers now out of the picture, they sit three points clear of Celtic, with a crucial final day meeting between the two set to decide the title.
Hearts have to win on Saturday, and they face a Motherwell side they beat 3-1 at the start of April. Derek McIness will fancy his chances against a Motherwell outfit who also still have to play Celtic. Away win.
