Torino (H) to beat Hellas Verona (14:00, live on Betfred.com) @ 9/10

Three consecutive defeats, all without scoring, have left Verona in an extremely vulnerable position in Serie A.

The 19th-placed outfit have picked up just 18 points from 31 games, the same as bottom-of-the-table Pisa, and they are nine points behind 17th-placed Cremonese, who occupy the final survival slot, with seven rounds of fixtures remaining.

Verona have won just once this calendar year and have lost six of their last seven matches, so confidence is on the floor.

Torino, meanwhile, are close to securing safety as they sit 12th, nine points ahead of 18th-placed Lecce, with their recent home form proving key.

Il Toro have won three of their four games at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino since the start of February, including both last month, following up a 2-0 success over Lazio on March 1 with a 4-1 thrashing of Parma 12 days later.

Only Pisa (eight) have picked up fewer away points in Serie A this season than Verona (11), who have lost four of their last five on the road, so Torino, 3-0 winners in January’s reverse fixture at the Bentegodi, are expected to make mincemeat of their struggling visitors on Saturday afternoon.

Oxford United (H) to beat Watford (15:00) @ 11/8

Oxford United, scrapping for their EFL Championship status, host Watford at the Kassam Stadium this Saturday.

The U’s are currently 23rd, tied on 41 points with 22nd-placed Leicester City, but Portsmouth (21st), who are occupying the final survival slot, are only a point better off, while West Bromwich Albion and Blackburn Rovers are two teams certainly not out of the woods yet.

United haven’t won any of their last four games, but they’ve drawn three times, including twice this month, and at home, they’re unbeaten in the league since February 10, beating West Brom (2-1) and Blackburn (1-0) before drawing 1-1 with both Charlton Athletic and Hull City.

Watford, meanwhile, are safe from relegation, while a tilt for the top six and the play-offs looks unlikely after a three-game winless run, in which they have picked up two points from a possible nine, has left them nine points adrift of sixth-placed Southampton, who boast a game in hand.

So, the Hornets have little to play for, and their away record this season makes for poor reading, with only six clubs picking up fewer points on their travels than Watford (20).

With so much on the line, we can expect the hosts to be bang up for this one, and so I expect a win for the relegation-threatened side.

Today's Football Fixtures

Southampton (H) to beat Derby County (15:00) @ ⅘

The aforementioned Southampton are on a roll, having won their last five games in all competitions, a run that has included a 2-1 FA Cup quarter-final triumph over Premier League leaders Arsenal.

The Saints are now just six points off the automatic promotion places in the Championship, although Ipswich Town, currently second on goal difference ahead of Middlesbrough and Millwall, have a game in hand on Tonda Eckert’s outfit, and two on Boro and the Lions.

On Saturday, the Saints entertain Derby County, who are eighth, just three points behind the South Coast side, at St Mary’s Stadium.

But while Southampton are on the up, the Rams may be on the way down following recent injuries to a couple of key forwards, Patrick Agyemang and Rhian Brewster, who have scored 17 league goals between them this season.

Derby’s away form has taken a turn for the worse, too, with four defeats from their last five on the road (W1).

The Saints haven’t lost on home soil since going down 2-1 to Hull on January 17, and they’ve won their last four at St Mary’s, including last Saturday’s stunning victory over Arsenal, so it’s difficult to back against hosts here.

Hearts (H) to beat Motherwell (15:00) @ 1/1

Scottish Premiership leaders Hearts could only manage a 1-1 draw at Livingston last Sunday, extending their winless run on the road to four games (D1, L3), but at home, it's a different story for the Jam Tarts, who haven't lost a league match at Tynecastle all season, winning their last four there - all by a 1-0 scoreline.

Their opponents this Saturday, Motherwell, have picked up just a single point from their last four games (D1, L3), losing their last two away matches at Dundee FC (2-1) and Celtic (3-1), and could be blown away in Edinburgh.

Sevilla (H) to beat Atletico Madrid (20:00, Premier Sports Player) @ 2/1

Backing against a side that beat Barcelona 2-0 in their own backyard in midweek may seem like a strange move, but Atletico Madrid had lost their three previous games, shipping eight goals, and with a top-four spot all-but wrapped up, and no chance of winning La Liga, all their focus is likely to be on the Champions League, with a second leg against Barca to come on Tuesday.

Sevilla, meanwhile, are fighting for their lives in La Liga, as they are currently 17th, just one place and two points above the relegation zone, having lost their last three matches, failing to win any of their last five (D2, L3).

While they haven't won at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan since January 24, they've only lost one of their last four games on home soil (D3), and they may fancy their chances of beating what will likely be a much-changed Atleti outfit that has picked up just 17 points from 14 away contests this season.
