Team News:

India

India put on a huge total in great part due to the outstanding knock of Virat Kohli.

I said in my notes ahead of the 1st ODI that it might take Kohli and former skipper Rohit Sharma a game or so to get back in the groove of things, seeing as they play very little cricket these days but Kohli made a mockery of that theory with yet another century (135), his 52nd ODI hundred.

Sharma wasn't too shabby with a quickfire 57 off 51 of his own. When we're talking about two of the greatest ODI batsmen ever in home conditions, maybe it shouldn't be a surprise after all that they can be out of the game for a few weeks, then come back and play like that.

Kohli's big knock meant we didn't cash in on KH Rahul at 13/2, their second highest scorer on 60, but Rahul's runs were vital to the cause as well.

Defending that total, Kuldeep Yadav took four wickets and Harshit Rana three as they won by 17 runs in a very high-scoring match.

Rishabh Pant might come in for Ruturaj Gaikwad at four after the latter made just 8.

South Africa

It's pretty obvious that South Africa conceded far too many first up, but at least they made a good fist of trying to chase that 350. And this after a poor start with the Top 3 contributing just seven runs between them.

In the end, it was left to our 11/2 pick Matthew Breetzke to top score with 72, but that was a little fortunate: Marc Jansen raced to 70 before holing out, and the even more unlikely figure of Corbin Bosch still gave SA hope with 67, before getting out in the last over of the match. So a good result for us.

Kagiso Rabada is unlikely to be fit for this one but Temba Bavuma could come in, possibly at the expense of Dewald Brevis.

India vs South Africa 2nd ODI Predicted Lineups

  • India: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ruturaj Gaikwad/Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul (capt, wk), Washington Sundar, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna
  • South Africa: Aiden Markram, Ryan Rickleton, Quinton de Kock (wk), Temba Bavuma (capt), Matthew Breetzke, Tony de Zorzi, Marco Jansen, Corbin Bosch, Prenelen Subrayen, Nandre Burger, Ottniel Baartman

Pitch and conditions

We're at Raipur for this one. There's only ever been one ODI play here, India beating New Zealand after chasing just 109. So it's hard to know what to expect here from such a small sample but it's unlikely the wicket will produce such a low-scoring game again.

Match Winner odds

We were keen on SA last time out at 2/1 but they were always up against it after India got off to such a good start. That they came within 18 runs was an excellent effort after a poor start with the bat.

So it's a bit of a case of 'once bitten, twice shy'. After Sunday's win it's now 23 wins from their last 27 at home, proving they have no concerns in 50-over cricket the way they do in Tests at the moment.

This time round, it's just 1/3 on India (75% implied probability) with SA at a slightly higher price at 9/4 this time. Sunday's game may have been a chance to catch India off guard after that Test Series win but the latter were impressive, so we'll show India the respect they deserve and save a possible bet on SA for other markets.

Top India Batsman

Sharma didn't win last time, and it would have been hard for anyone to match Kohli's effort, but he looked in good nick, in the process breaking the record for most ODI sixes ever in the format.

We all know opening is the best place to bat in India, and Sharma has made the most of that with seven wins from his last fifteen, so 3/1 has to be snapped up on Sharma to do his thing.

Top SA Bowler

Another player coming in to the match with a strong win rate is fast bowler Nandre Burger, who has five wins in his last 13.

If you'd backed him last time out at 3/1, you would have had a four-way dead-heated bet for a small profit after he was one of four claiming two wickets.
