Nap of the day

Back-to-back winners for my NAP of the Day selections, courtesy of Haayimm at Musselburgh on Tuesday. Tipped at 5/2, he drifted out to an SP of 5/1 and still did the business, so a very well done if you secured Best Odds Guaranteed.

Hat-trick on Wednesday, anyone? We go to Epsom for a Betfred-sponsored card looking to achieve just that.

I'm surprised to see ALMA LATINA was awarded an opening mark of 82 ahead of her handicap debut at Epsom on Wednesday. That looks lenient to me.

Ralph Beckett's three-year-old Study Of Man filly has some classy form in the book, starting with her third to subsequent Musidora runner-up Felicitas at Sandown in April.

A narrow defeat to William Haggas' 82-rated Pierian at Salisbury followed, before a duck-breaking success at Pontefract on the second day of June.

I was against her in West Yorkshire, favouring According To Mark for Edward Bethell instead, and it's fair to say I was left with a fair bit of egg on my face as Alma Latina bolted up by three-and-a-half lengths.

That's a fair piece of form, assuming the runner-up ran to form, which I'm inclined to believe given he was 10 lengths clear of the 81-rated Fozzie himself.

Horse Racing Odds

According To Mark was only just denied by Richard & Peter Fahey's Mr Colonel (97), who went on to finish a respectable third in the Chester Vase behind Irish Derby hero Benvenuto Cellini, at Redcar previously, so in all likelihood he's a smart type himself.

I think the selection is deserving of a rating closer to 90 than 80, so I think she's a well-handicapped individual. She remains open to significant improvement, too, as she appears to be getting better with each run.

She's very much the one to beat in the Betfred 'The Classic Bookmaker' Handicap - a 0-80 affair over 1m4f. It'll be her first time over this distance, which looks sure to suit.

Of her rivals, the market suggests Central Command is the one to fear most. I'd agree, alongside Arcturus Flame for Richard Hughes and the Betfred 2000 Guineas-winning jockey Billy Loughnane.

However, I think this looks a golden opportunity for Alma Latina to get another win on the board and continue her progression through the handicap ranks.
