Nap of the day with owen mcmahon

I'm back in the NAP of the Day hotseat on Thursday after a few days off due to illness.

Hopefully I can pick up from where I left off, with four winners - at 10/11, 5/4, 7/4 and 5/1 - from my last six selections.

NAP of the Day - Thursday 11 June 2026

Ahead of Royal Ascot, rising star of the Australian weighing room Zac Lloyd is enjoying a spell in the UK - and the 22-year-old has wasted no time in getting acclimatised.

The multiple Group 1 winner Down Under has already ridden two winners (from nine rides) and of his seven losers, three were runner-up. Not too shabby...

A trip to the east coast of England beckons on Thursday, for three rides at Yarmouth - starting with UPPER HENDERSYDE in a six-furlong novice stakes.

Jane Chapple-Hyam's three-year-old son of Havana Grey bids to go one better than his second on debut at Salisbury exactly 19 days ago.

He was just touched off by Ed Walker's 85-rated Golden Brown, who was in receipt of five pounds thank to jockey Ashley Lewis' claim, in Wiltshire, which looks a relatively smart piece of form.

The Galileo Gold gelding was runner-up in a Listed event at Redcar at two and his odds-on defeat to Behike, who could run in the Commonwealth Cup at Ascot next week, at Lingfield on this season's reappearance mightn't look so bad in time.

Upper Hendersyde, a 220k guineas yearling, was over a length clear of Ralph Beckett's Vichenza, a half-sister to 105-rated stablemate Zoum Zoum, and she had subsequent winner Lucky Luna trailing by a further length.

Horse Racing Odds

With improvement expected, the selection is taken to open his account at the second time of asking.

The 80-rated Nevasca Cinza, our biggest danger according to the odds at time of publication, sets a standard, but a modest one. He's winless in four starts and his most recent effort was particularly underwhelming. A bit to prove, then.

I'm more wary of Anyasi for Roger Varian. He was six lengths behind Karl Burke's 112-rated Alparslan on debut and if ready to go after 305 days on the sidelines, he could certainly have a say. Again, it's asking a bit of the New Bay colt.

On a single piece of form - his second in the £100,000 Tattersalls Somerville Auction Stakes at Newmarket last August - Court Alert is a danger to all. However, on the evidence of his other three runs, he's got nothing more than a squeak. It's his first run after wind surgery, too.

Newcomers Rogue Federation and Yazoo are respected, for all they'd need to be a good bit above average to take this, while I don't see much of a case for Debrief, George Wickham, Red Legs or Unique Procedure.

It's Upper Hendersyde's race to lose as far as I'm concerned.
