Lucky 15

Just the one winner at Beverley yesterday, but when UK cold taps run lukewarm for several seconds after being engaged clearly there are other-worldly factors at large right now. That's my excuse anyway.

More sunshine is expected I believe tomorrow, and we've some cracking racing to enjoy including a flat meeting at Salisbury. It's there that I'm headed for our Lucky 15 tips for Wednesday, June 26, with a start pencilled in for 13:45. Fast summer ground, top trainers and jocks represented, and a gorgeous setting in predominantly rural Wiltshire.

Lucky 15 Tips Wednesday

Salisbury

  • 14:15 - Whenthedealinsdone @ 11/4
  • 15:45 - South Pole @ 9/4
  • 16:15 - Subsequent @ 6/4
  • 16:50 - Delicacy @ 11/10

14:15 - Whenthedealinsdone @ 11/4

Memories of the great, much-missed Kenny Rogers in the equine form of Whenthedealinsdone.

This is a Class 4 sprint handicap over 5f, and is designated a veterans race. Our selection is a mere six-year-old, in common with most of the field, but there are two entries, aged nine and ten respectively, for whom retirement might not be too far away. Both it's fair to say are very well fancied for this, though - Beyond Equal and Treacherous, with Rossa Ryan and Silvestre De Sousa booked.

Our pick is a Dark Angel gelding trained by Roger Teal, and the excellent Kieran Shoemark is in the plate. He ran a cracker under this jockey at Newbury 13 days ago, beaten just 1.5l. That was in this grade but over a furlong further - and he's not run at the minimum since last back end.

He has been successful though at this distance, and his back catalogue points to a 5f win three years ago at Goodwood off a mark of 93. He's down to 75 in the autumn of his career now, but showed last time in Berkshire that the spark was most certainly still there. Worth a little gamble? That's a yes from me - my nap.

15:45 - South Pole @ 9/4

Billy Loughnane and George Boughey team up again with this three-year-old No Nay Never colt, formerly in the care of Aidan O'Brien.

He had two spins in Ireland and looked to be progressing nicely. He's only just joined his new yard and must overcome an absence of 249 days, over this 10f trip.

Evidently well down the Ballydoyle pecking order, a Class 4 maiden for his first-rate trainer/jockey combo might just be what he needs to get his career back on track, and being out of a Sea The Stars mare is very nicely-bred indeed for tasks such as this one.

16:15 - Subsequent @ 6/4

Trainer Andrew Balding and jockey Silvestre De Sousa combine in this mile-and-a-half Class 3 handicap.

Subsequent runs in the familiar colours of Mrs Fitri Hay, so successful this term and indeed at the Royal meeting last week. He won a Haydock novice in taking fashion 19 days ago and that should stand him in very good stead for this.

The horse ran well here in May and can make his first foray into handicap company a winning one.

16:50 - Delicacy @ 11/10

Richard Hannon and indeed his hugely successful Dad, back in the day, have had stacks of winners here over the years. Delicacy really should in my book be another.

This is a three-year-old Class 5 contest over a mile, and Hannon's Saxon Warrior filly arrives after two recent seconds. She's in the best nick since her Kempton debut last summer according to Racing Post ratings, and seems to be getting the hang of things nicely. Familiar colours again - this time belonging to Highclere Racing.

Those last two efforts were at this trip of a mile, after being stepped up, and it appeared to suit. I think Pat Dobbs might just make for the far rail and attempt to dictate from the front, but however it pans out she's got stacks going for her on Wednesday afternoon.

If you're playing have fun, take care, and good luck.

Horse Racing Odds

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £109 for your total £7.50 stake.

Fred, 'The Bonus King,' invented the 'Lucky' series of bets and their bonuses. My colleague Adam has set out all you need to know with this handy guide - take a look by clicking here.
