L15 Royal Ascot

It's here - we wait no more. Top hat duly dusted off, and an annual reminder that the old waistline has mysteriously increased (could be that the pants have shrunk - yes, that'll be it).

Day One of Royal Ascot, and our Lucky 15 tips couldn't in all candour come from anywhere else. It's Tuesday, June 18. ENJOY!

**I'm adding details of some great offers if you're backing any of our Lucky 15 elements in isolation.

15:05 - Cowardofthecounty @ 9/2

Joey O, the great jockey-turned trainer Joseph O'Brien, saddles unbeaten Cowardofthecounty for this 6f speed test for two-year-olds.

His father Aidan has an incredible record in the race but may have to give best to Joseph today as this looks tailor-made for the offspring of Kodi Bear, who was a close-up fifth in this very contest himself back in 2014.

The selection has run just once, 58 days ago, in a decent Curragh maiden. The second that day is a warm favourite for the Norfolk, and Cowardofthecounty was an authoritative winner, going away at the finish.

There should be plenty of improvement to come on top of that solitary outing, and for what it's worth this one is my nap of the day.

**NB .. This is an Extra Place Race, so Betfred are paying 4 places instead of 3 at 1/5 the odds for all each-way bets - and we're offering your stake back (up to £10) as a free bet if your selection finishes 2nd or 3rd.

15:45 - Big Evs @ 4/1

A proper, big-race, tip-top sprinter. 5f this time, and a three-year-old Blue Point colt who won the Listed Windsor Castle over course and distance at this meeting last term.

Big Evs had a blip in last season's Nunthorpe at York but that apart was sensational, notably taking the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf at Santa Anita under today's jockey Tom Marquand.

On seasonal reappearance he laid to rest his little York hoodoo 33 days ago by winning a Listed affair, and though he's taking on older horses here the division is crying out for a superstar or two - he might just be one-in-waiting.

Believing was outstanding at Haydock the other day and I tipped her up. I respect her chance enormously, but Big Evs deserves this shot and has a fantastic attitude. What a race.

**NB .. This is an Extra Place Race, so Betfred are paying 4 places instead of 3 at 1/5 the odds for all each-way bets.

16:25 - Notable Speech @ 5/4

Guineas winners assemble, for the St James's Palace Stakes.

At Newmarket in May (2000 Guineas), Notable Speech beat Rosallion by 1.5l. The runner-up has subsequently won the Irish equivalent by a whisker from stablemate Haatem, who is entered up as a longshot in the Eclipse.

Notable Speech hasn't run since that first colts' Classic 45 days ago, but his Godolphin/Charlie Appleby/William Buick credentials are impeccable, and it doesn't concern me one jot. He's a son of Dubawi out of an Invincible Spirit mare, and I can see him travelling nicely into this and powering home late in the piece.

I can see no reason why Rosallion should reverse the form, and though French Guineas winner Metropolitan adds to the intrigue that success was achieved on soft ground, and the form doesn't look as strong to me.

18:15 - Alsakib @ 12/1

Oisin Murphy didn't quite get my fancy Flora Of Bermuda home on Saturday (beaten a head at 5/1, but I forgive him). Alsakib however might just get the former champion, and us, back in the winner's circle.

Andrew Balding's charge is a four-year-old Kingman colt, and looks to be crying out for a shot at a trip like this (1m 6f). He's been running on without quite getting fully involved at lesser distances, and on seasonal reappearance at Newbury ran the tremendous yardstick Hamish to just over 5l in the Group 3 John Porter, in receipt of only 3lb.

Chester perhaps then didn't suit in the Ormonde, but again it was all about late gains. After two spins in 2024 he should now be cherry-ripe for this Class 2 handicap and he's the kind of price that invites an each-way tickle on its own (we're paying FIVE places).

**NB .. This is an Extra Place Race, so Betfred are paying 5 places instead of 4 at 1/5 the odds for all each-way bets.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £920 for your total £7.50 stake.
