Owen McMahon's NAP of the Day

After a winner 24 hours earlier, I'm hoping to go back-to-back with my NAP of the Day on Wednesday.

It's to Carlisle I go in search of another one, with a highly-rated three-year-old fancied to land the big race of the day.

  • 15:35 Carlisle - Jabaara @ 10/11

The feature of Today's Horse Races is the Eternal Stakes - a Listed affair over seven furlongs for three-year-old fillies - at Carlisle.

Nine go to post and the 15:35 Carlisle Odds suggests Roger Varian's JABAARA is the one to beat. I completely agree.

Despite winning just one of five starts, the daughter of Exceed and Excel made her mark as a juvenile, earning a three-figure rating (101) after her final run of the season in the G1 Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket in September.

She finished sixth at HQ, just over three lengths behind the winner Porta Fortuna who landed the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot last week, before being sent on her winter break.

Her reappearance this season came on the all-weather at Chelmsford early last month, in a Listed race over six furlongs. She could 'only' manage third of 11, but it was a strong field for the grade and she showed an abundance of promise in defeat.

Improvement duly followed, as she won another competitive Listed race at Musselburgh almost exactly a month later.

That form was franked big time at Ascot as the third-placed Soprano, who was over two lengths behind the selection in Scotland, won the 30-runner Sandringham Stakes handicap off a mark of 100.

I would argue this is an easier assignment for Jabaara, who has a lot more to offer as the season progresses especially at this trip, and so she rates a solid fancy on Wednesday.

Jabaara to win the 15.35 Carlisle at 10-11
