After going 10 Premier League games without a win, West Ham United picked up a vital three points at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last Saturday, securing a 2-1 victory courtesy of Callum Wilson's stoppage-time strike. Sunderland, who hadn't won any of their last five league matches heading into the 22nd round of fixtures, triumphed by the same scoreline, on the same day, beating Crystal Palace 2-1 at the Stadium of Light.

The Irons and the Black Cats face off against each other this Saturday lunchtime (12:30 GMT, TNT Sports 1), and ahead of their meeting at London Stadium, you can check out my West Ham vs Sunderland predictions below, supported by all the latest team news and match odds.

Team News

Africa Cup of Nations winner El Hadji Malick Diouf, who started Senegal's triumphant final victory over Morocco last Sunday, could make his return to the West Ham squad this weekend, although he may have to settle for a substitute role.

Wantaway playmaker Lucas Paqueta, who could be on his way to Brazilian giants Flamengo this month, missed last week's win in north London and is a doubt for Saturday's game, while Lukasz Fabianski is still sidelined for Nuno Espirito Santo's side with a back issue.

Football Odds

As for Sunderland, head coach Regis Le Bris is missing new signing Jocelin Ta Bi due to an ankle injury. He joins Bertrand Traore (knee) and Arthur Masuaku (ankle) in the Wearsiders' treatment room.

West Ham vs Sunderland Predicted Lineups

  • West Ham: Areola; Wan-Bissaka, Todibo, Mavropanos, Scarles; Bowen, Fernandes, Soucek, Summerville; Pablo; Castellanos
  • Sunderland: Roefs; Hume, Mukiele, Ballard, Alderete, Reinildo; Le Fee, Sadiki, Xhaka; Mundle; Brobbey

West Ham vs Sunderland Odds

West Ham are 8/5 to record back-to-back league wins for just the second time this season, implying a 38.5% probability of success, while Sunderland, who beat the Irons 3-0 at the Stadium of Light on the opening weekend in August, are 15/8, or a 34.8% chance, to do the double.

The Black Cats have drawn nine of their 22 league games in 2025/26, and another stalemate for Le Bris' boys can be backed at 11/5.

Betfred's Price Boosts for this fixture include Jarrod Bowen 2+ Shots on Target & Brian Brobbey 2+ Shots on Target at 9/1 (was 15/2).

West Ham vs Sunderland Stats

  • Reinildo (SUN) has received four yellows and one red in 13 PL apps
  • Eight PL defenders (nine yellows) have been booked for fouling Bowen (WHU) this season
  • Only WOL (five) have picked up fewer points at home than WHU (seven)

Price Boosts - Reinildo Mandava (SUN) To Be Carded @ 5/2 11/4

Sunderland left-back Reinildo Mandava committed one foul on his Premier League debut in August, upending his direct opponent, West Ham winger Bowen.

The 32-year-old wasn't booked in that win for the Black Cats, but in 13 Premier League appearances this season, he has received four yellow cards and one red card, averaging 1.5 fouls per 90 minutes.

Today's Football Fixtures

Bowen has proven a tricky man to defend against this term, averaging 15 fouls won per 90 in the league.

Eight different defenders, Jorrel Hato (Chelsea), Djed Spence (x2) and Micky van de Ven (both Spurs), Tyrick Mitchell (Crystal Palace), Marcos Senesi (AFC Bournemouth), Ayden Heaven, Luke Shaw (both Manchester United) and Jan Paul van Hecke, have been booked for fouling Bowen in the Premier League this season, with four - Hato, Spence, Mitchell and Shaw - playing as either a left-back, left wing-back or left-sided centre-back.

Draw No Bet - Sunderland @ 1/1

West Ham's confidence may be up after that win in north London last weekend, but it should be highlighted that they only beat a Spurs side who have won just once at home in the Premier League this season, losing five and drawing three of their first nine at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before the Irons pitched up.

Nuno's side have endured their own home woes in 2025/26, losing eight and drawing two of their 11 league games at London Stadium; only Wolves (five) have picked up fewer points at home than West Ham (seven).

The Irons last tasted league success in east London on November 8, losing four and drawing one of their last five games on home soil.

It's tempting to back Sunderland, who dismantled West Ham at home on the opening day of the season, in the Match Result market at 15/8, but the Black Cats, who boast the fifth-best home record, aren't anywhere near as deadly on their travels, winning just two of their 11 matches (D4, L5).

Between the two teams, it's Sunderland who I would back to win, but considering their penchant for a stalemate this season, it may be worth selecting the visitors in the Draw No Bet market, meaning that if the game finishes level, your stake will be returned.
