Inter Milan vs Fluminense Prediction: Martinez on a mission

Inter Milan and Fluminense will continue their respective Fifa Club World Cup campaigns when they meet on Monday night (20:00 BST, live on Betfred) in a last-16 clash at Bank of America Stadium.

Team News

Marcus Thuram has been sidelined with a thigh problem for Inter, so Francesco Pio Esposito could once again be handed a starting berth.

Hakan Calhanoglu, Piotr Zielinski, Benjamin Pavard and Yann Bisseck are other notable absentees for the Italians, while Lautaro Martinez will be hopeful of continuing his goalscoring feats in the USA. 

As for Fluminense, they remain without Otavio, but recent signing Yeferson Soteldo has resumed full training and could feature in Monday’s game.

Thiago Silva's availability remains to be seen after pulling out of the last group game with a muscle issue, but fellow veterans Fabio and Ganso are likely to start.

Inter are 4/6 to win the game, giving them an implied win probability of 60%, while Fluminense are currently priced up at 9/2.

The draw can be backed at 11/4 and Martinez leads the anytime goalscorer market at 11/8.

Inter Milan to win and under 2.5 goals @ 23/10

If this Club World Cup has proven anything about Inter Milan, it's that they have the ability to bounce back from painful defeats.

They were humiliated in the Champions League final by Paris Saint-Germain and they also lost the Scudetto title on the last day of their domestic season to Napoli.

I Nerazzurri have shown plenty of heart to top their group, winning two and drawing one of their three fixtures. Although their Brazilian counterparts managed to hold both Borussia Dortmund and Mamelodi Sundowns to goalless draws, I believe Inter will be too strong here but I'm anticipating a goal fest.

Four of Fluminense's last five competitive games have featured fewer than three goals, and they've played out two 0-0 draws already at this competition.

In addition, only one of Inter’s three fixtures in the competition has produced over 2.5 goals.

Lautaro Martinez to score anytime @ 11/8

Martinez has scored in two of Inter’s three games at this tournament, so he’ll be key to their fortunes in this clash, especially since Thuram sidelined due to injury.

The forward has had three shots on target across the three group games, so expect him to be involved in the goalmouth action.

I'm backing the Argentine to find a breakthrough against a Fluminense defence that have have conceded the second-lowest xG total at the tournament.
