Football bet of the day

The World Cup is firmly in the rearview mirror, with Spain triumphing against Lionel Messi and 10 MMA fighters in an angst-ridden final. As a global football populace we are bereft. Where to turn now the quadrennial tournament has packed up and left Trump Town?

While international football has paused, our bet-scouring colossus known as Football Bet of the Day carries on. We’re off to the Allsvenskan today for a bit of Swedish soccer action.

Football Bet of the Day - Monday July 20 2026

  • Malmo to win and over 2.5 goals @ 11/5

Kalmar vs Malmo Odds

It does not get any bigger than Malmo in Sweden. Their 24 league titles and 16 national cups are both record hauls in the country. They are also the only Swedish side ever to reach the final of the European Cup/Champions League.

Malmo are not currently enjoying a season befitting their decorated past. After 12 matches, Gaute Helstrup’s charges are sixth in the Allsvenskan. Malmo finished in the very same position last term, having not lifted the title since the 2024 campaign.

There has been an upturn in form straddling the mid-season break, with Malmo winning their last three league encounters. The title is long-gone, with surprise package Sirius leading the league on 35 points to Malmo’s 19. But the European places are only four points away with over half the season yet to play. Malmo have a game in hand on Hacken, meaning they may only need a one point swing with all things being equal.

Malmo seem a safe bet to keep their continental charge alive against Kalmar. The hosts are 12th in the table and more concerned with the drop than any fantasies of Euro-glory. The Red Brothers have lost three of their last five outings and look short of the quality needed to out-fox this Malmo side, as bruised as they are.

Football Odds

Malmo have also had no trouble finding the net recently. They can count a 4-0 win over Goteborg and a 5-2 victory over Halmstad among their recent accomplishments. The latter result hints at a vulnerability that Hammarby exploited in a 4-1 win while Vesteras took the Swedish giants apart in a 4-2 victory not long ago.

Malmo are stronger than their opponents and have shown they know where the goal is. Unfortunately, they are not as adept at guarding their own net. Which is why I like Malmo to win with over 2.5 total goals in the game. I feel like the keepers will be busy in this clash, with the record-holding Swedish trophy hoarders edging the contest in a thriller. If you fancy backing Malmo to win and over 2.5 total goals, my Football Bet of the Day is 11/5 at press time.
