Middlesbrough are back in action tonight as they host Sheffield Wednesday at the Riverside (19:45 BST, Sky Sports+).

Boro are winless in seven as they have fallen out of the top two, but they could go within three points of Millwall with a win here. Read on for my Middlesbrough vs Sheffield Wednesday predictions.

Team News

Kim Hellberg saw his side put in a strong performance away at Ipswich last time out, with Tommy Conway and David Strelec both finding the net. The manager confirmed that Hayden Hackney would be out until the final day of the season, however there is positive news on Riley McGree, who should return to the squad here.

Sheffield Wednesday are likely to be without Svante Ingelsson for the rest of the season, and there are question marks as to whether Nathaniel Chalobah will be able to play two games in quick succession, having completed 89 minutes on Saturday. Jarvis Thornton could feature in midfield in his place.

Today's Football Fixtures

Middlesbrough to win both halves @ 21/20

Middlesbrough have not been in good form lately in terms of results, but the performances have still been good on the whole. They’ve dominated most matches they have played, created plenty of chances, but just failed to take them in front of goal.

Against Ipswich they were the better team, but they were robbed by a controversial late penalty decision as they drew the game 2-2. Automatic promotion now looks to be unlikely, but I wouldn’t rule out a serious push in the play-offs from this talented Boro outfit.

Sheffield Wednesday have performed really well lately, drawing their last three games in a row - but the end of the season is drawing near and their small squad does struggle when the fixtures are packed close together. I think they will be competitive again, but an early goal from Boro will make this a one-sided contest. As long as they can find their scoring boots.

Price Boost - David Strelec to score first @ 4/1

I think we should also take advantage of the Price Boost on offer from Betfred given we are backing a Boro win. Strelec should start again having bagged vs Ipswich and his manager praised him in his pre-match press conference.

“He arrived about four games into the season and it was a difficult move abroad for him. He has also had an injury during the season so it hasn’t been easy. His performance on Sunday was very good and I see that in training all the time. He’s very good at a lot of different things and I was very happy for him on Sunday.”

At 4/1 to open the scoring, I think he is worth backing.
