Young boys vs red star belgrade

Young Boys and Red Star Belgrade meet in a Champions League game on Wednesday and both teams know their respective European adventures will end at the full time whistle.

The hosts have no points to show for their efforts, while Red Star have just three on the board. Young Boys can still avoid finishing bottom of the league phase if they better Slovan Bratislava’s result at Bayern Munich but their clear priority is their domestic campaign, as they currently sit in ninth place in Switzerland’s Super League. Read on for my Young Boys vs Red Star Belgrade prediction.

Team News

Young Boys will be without the suspended Filip Ugrinic, while Facinet Conte is a long-term injury victim and has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Forward Peter Olayinka will miss out for Red Star due to an Achilles problem.

Young Boys vs Red Star Belgrade Odds

Both teams are rated at 8/5 to win the game in 90 minutes, with the draw on offer at 11/4.

Unsurprisingly, both of these defences have struggled in Europe with Young Boys shipping 23 goals in seven games and Red Star Belgrade conceding 22. As such, goals at both ends could be on the cards and both teams to score is 1/2, while over 2.5 goals is 8/13.

Red Star Belgrade to win @ 8/5

It is fair to say that both of these teams have looked out of their depth at times during the course of their Champions League campaigns, but Red Star have at least managed to pick up some points, courtesy of a 5-1 hammering of Stuttgart in Serbia.

Young Boys’ struggles this season stretch beyond their European campaign, as despite being the defending champions, they currently sit ninth in the Swiss Super League, five points adrift of the Championship Group.

New Young Boys head coach Giorgio Contini made no secret of the fact that this competition is no longer a priority and they may already be looking ahead to the weekend clash with a Lausanne side who sit six points above them in the Super League.

By contrast, Red Star are flying back home with a huge 17-point lead at the top ahead of the resumption of the Serbian SuperLiga this weekend.

The visitors have perhaps been unlucky at times in the UCL, putting in decent displays in defeats to PSV and AC Milan, and they can at least round off their European campaign with victory at the Wankdorf Stadium.

Cherif Ndiaye to score anytime @ 2/1

Goals haven’t necessarily been the problem for Red Star in the Champions League as they have hit 12 in their seven games.

There are a few candidates among the visiting squad for an anytime effort, but the best option could be Cherif Ndiaye.

The 29-year-old Senegal international has two goals in Europe this season, including a strike in the last game against PSV, and he has netted four times in his last three competitive games overall.

Ndiaye also scored three goals in as many friendlies this month as the Serbian pacesetters looked to stay fresh over the winter break.
