Birmingham vs Preston Prediction: No Blues for Brum on Wednesday

Birmingham City and Preston North End have nothing to play for at the business end of the Championship season, but both will look to finish the season strongly. They square up against one another on Wednesday at St. Andrew's (19:45 BST, Sky Sports+).
The Blues earned a draw at promotion-chasing Hull City on Saturday, while Preston suffered a home defeat against West Bromwich Albion. My Birmingham vs Preston predictions can be found below, featuring the latest team news and match odds.

Team News
Kyogo Furuhashi is sidelined for Birmingham following shoulder surgery. Lee Buchanan continues to build up his fitness after a serious knee injury in December 2024.
The Blues are preparing for next season so August Priske and Jay Stansfield should continue to partner each other in attack. Ibrahim Osman and Carlos Vicente are expected to occupy the flanks again.
Preston are missing Robbie Brady (muscle), Jamal Lewis (thigh) and Callum Lang (shoulder) due to injury.
After the West Brom defeat at the weekend, boss Phil Parkinson may consider starting the likes of Milutin Osmajic and Thierry Small on Wednesday.
Birmingham vs Preston Predicted Lineups
- Birmingham: Beadle; Laird, Neumann, Klarer, Wagner; Solis, Iwata, Vicente, Stansfield, Osman; Priske
- Preston: Iversen; Offiah, Storey, Gibson, Hughes; Potts, Moran, Whiteman, Devine; Jebbison, Dobbin
Birmingham have won their last two meetings with Preston but they are looking to record their first league double over the Lilywhites since 2000/01. The Blues are 8/13 to prevail on Wednesday.
The draw is priced at 11/4, and Preston have posted two draws in their previous four fixtures in the Championship. The visitors are 9/2 win a second consecutive away trip in the second tier.
Birmingham's Stansfield is the 13/10 favourite to score anytime.
Birmingham vs Preston Stats
- Birmingham have won their last two H2Hs with Preston
- Seven of the Blues' past 8 league games have gone Under 2.5 Goals
- Carlos Vicente has scored in 2 of his previous 3 appearances for Birmingham
Match Result & Total Goals Over/Under 2.5 - Birmingham & Under @ 11/4
Birmingham are two games unbeaten after a disappointing three-game losing streak. Given the high expectations set by the club's ambitious owners, 14th place does not look good on boss Chris Davies.
It remains to be seen if he will be the man in charge of the Blues next season, but he has these remaining fixtures to show he can take the team to the next level. They, like Preston, have nothing riding on these last three matches, but they will likely want to give the fans something to shout about over the next two weeks.
They've adopted a more direct approach in their play in recent games and it has made them look more threatening in front of goal. They can use this to beat a Preston side that were beaten at home to West Brom last time out.
I've added Under 2.5 Goals to the selection because it has landed in seven of Birmingham's previous eight outings in the Championship. It was also successful in the reverse fixture, which the Blues won 1-0 back in October.

Anytime Goalscorer - Carlos Vicente @ 23/10
With two goals in his last three appearances for Birmingham, Carlos Vicente is preparing himself to be a major player in the Championship next term. The Spaniard was the Blues' marquee signing in the winter transfer window, costing around £7m from La Liga outfit Alaves.
As Davies has tweaked his side's approach, we are now seeing more of what Vicente has to offer. I think he will be a big threat against a Preston side who have nothing but pride to play for.
I like his 23/10 (implied probability of 30.3%) to find the net on Wednesday.
