T4 (Head for Home) 19:33 Hove @ SP

We are back from a layoff and have trialled the last 3 weeks; good times over the sprint trip here, but an awful time over the 500m at Towcester. Looking at tonight's race and our make-up, I feel we have an excellent opportunity of gaining our first victory at the third time of asking.

How I see tonight's race being run - T1 is an A4 grader who took off latest and recorded an open race time over the 500m trip. That was a freak performance and I'm unsure if he can repeat that sort of effort, being normally slowly into stride, and will struggle with this step-up in grade into open class.

T2 is a better grader than T1 and will be heading for the fence, so the two runners could spoil their chances straight away in this.

T3 is an ex-Shelbourne runner, and what I witnessed on last week's debut was how much this runner needs T1. Drawn in T3 will spell trouble for both inside runners in my view, as crowding is almost inevitable.

T6 has a good draw being the only wide seed but this A3 runner will struggle to get involved and I can see him being out the back late on after being prominent round the first few bends.

So, back to us - we have an ideal launch pad and will have loads of room to pace up and clear the inside. Once we do we can stretch away to fulfil our earlier trial promise and record our first victory. Solid chance.

English debut tonight; this former Kilkenny runner did have some good form and quick times over the standard 480m trip, and I've liked what I've seen in qualifying and clearing trials here over the sprint trip (285m) and tonight's trip of 500m. This is an ideal opportunity to start off with a win.

How I see the race panning out - T1 of course is our main danger having already landed a good A1 contest, but has been off since picking up a knock at Towcester in April so could need this return. Won't lead tonight but is a strong type that could get involved late.

T2 is an A2 grader who will struggle throughout in this, could give T1 things to think about on the run-up, but overall form is not good enough to get involved.

T3 is for me outgraded; an A3 runner stepping into open company, and I can't see any form lines that gets me thinking this runner has a chance. It's a pass from me.

T4 is ex-Sheffield, won well in an A4 latest but that time was six lengths slower than our trial time so to me won't be quick enough to get involved.

So, back onto us. Good draw, quick away, and lead all the 500m. My eye will be drawn to where T1 turns but more important that we get first run on that runner. If we do I see us stretching on and winning this by multiple lengths.

Bet of the day for me.
