It’s the biggest game of Celtic’s season, and Parkhead will be packed to capacity as the Scottish Premiership champions host last season’s Bundesliga third-place finishers.
The Bhoys performed better than most pundits predicted during the league phase, winning three and drawing three of their eight starts while scoring 13 goals. The Scots famously beat Young Boys, RB Leipzig, and Slovan Bratislava at this venue. Will the Germans be the next big name to fall?
The stars of Bayern Munich travel from Bavaria to Glasgow as one of the favourites to win this season’s Champions League trophy. Vincent Kompany’s men won five and lost three of their eight league starts, scoring 20 goals and collecting 15 points to end in 12th place.
Better was expected from FCB, but there’s still plenty of football to play, and the team with 33 German titles has more to offer. We’ll see an example of their capabilities on Wednesday.
Followers of our football picks landed a winning accumulator in the Scottish Cup at the weekend, and midweek allows us to keep the profits rolling home. Will Celtic continue to defy the odds and score one of the club’s biggest wins, beating a global superpower before a sold-out stadium? You can back the Bhoys to make home advantage count and get 7/1 at Betfred.
Bayern Munich may be the visiting side, but they enter as strong pre-match betting favourites, with Betfred traders pricing the visitors like losing isn’t an option. Kompany’s team have won four of their previous five games in this competition, falling just one point short of the top eight and a spot in the playoffs.
Pressure is on FCB to fire back and prove they have the skills and character needed to challenge for the Champions League trophy. Bet on Bayern Munich at 4/11, or try the draw at 9/2. Munich will be popular in midweek accas.
Both teams to score and Bayern Munich win
Bayern Munich will do as the odds suggest and secure a vital away win, taking an aggregate lead back to Germany next Tuesday. The odds offered on the visitors will work best in your Champions League multiples, but we’re happy to take a chance on Celtic scoring, giving their fans something to cheer on what will be a special night for the club.
Picking Bayern Munich to win and both teams to score would’ve earned you a return in three of their previous four games in all competitions. That run included battling wins over Holsten Kiel, Slovan Bratislava, and Freiburg.
It was also the correct approach in recent wins over Wolfsburg, RB Leipzig, Shakhtar Donetsk, and Heidenheim. Celtic scored 14 goals in three games played this month, and they netted against Aston Villa, Young Boys, Club Brugge, RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund, and Slovan Bratislava in this competition.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
Harry Kane to score first
We turn our attention to the player markets and follow one of the most reliable strikers in Europe: Harry Kane. The England and Bayern Munich attacker has scored six goals in his last four starts, including four in his previous two. He added a brace against Holstein Kiel and did the same against Werder Bremen on Friday.
The current Champions League scorer stats show Kane already has six goals in this season’s competition, sitting just three behind current top scorer Robert Lewandowski. We’re backing Kane to narrow the gap and improve his position with at least one goal in Glasgow, and you can shoot for decent odds by backing Kane to score first.
