Castleford Tigers’ latest attempt at a first win of the Betfred Super League season comes at home to a Salford Red Devils side re-energised by an Easter derby win over Leigh Leopards (kick-off 20:00 BST).

The Red Devils outplayed the Leopards on Saturday and now head to a Tigers team licking its wounds after losing all six games so far. Salford can be hit and miss on the road – as was shown in their recent 40-0 Challenge Cup capitulation at Hull KR - but they will be big favourites here to heap further misery on Craig Lingard’s men, making our Castleford Tigers vs Salford Red Devils predictions all about finding the best value.

Castleford Tigers v Salford Red Devils Tips

  • Handicap 3-way Salford Red Devils -8 @ 21/20
  • Ryan Brierley anytime tryscorer @ 6/4

Team news

Salford came through that Leigh win unscathed, as although ever-present centre Nene Macdonald hobbled off at the Salford Community Stadium, he is available for the trip to West Yorkshire.

Props Brad Singleton, Gil Dudson and Adam Sidlow are still out injured, while Chris Hankinson and Ben Hellewell are stepping up their recoveries from injury but remain sidelined.

Cas make one change to the squad beaten 26-6 by Leeds Rhinos last weekend, with Sylvester Namo in line for his second appearance as he replaces Albert Vete.

Paul McShane and Alex Mellor both came through their returns from injury OK last week and continue in the side, but full-back Luke Hooley and half-back Rowan Milnes are still out.

Handicap 3-way Salford Red Devils -8 @ 21/20

Salford returned for us on last week’s handicap against Leigh so we will stick with a similar bet this week for Paul Rowley’s men to win at The Jungle by more than eight points despite having been run much closer than many might have expected in round two when the Red Devils prevailed 26-22 in M30.

The Tigers will have planned this week to hit Salford hard, early,  after seeing the way they capitulated in the Cup against Hull KR, but Rovers are a far better side than the Tigers and I expect Salford to weather any Cas storm and come through unscathed.

Mark Sneyd has thrived since the departure of the club’s talisman Brodie Croft, and I expect him to lead from the front again to see his side notch up another win.

Salford -8 v Castleford @ 21/20

Ryan Brierley anytime tryscorer @ 6/4

Salford’s pride and joy, full-back Brierley marked his 300th career appearance against former club Leigh last weekend with a two-try display that the Leopards just couldn’t deal with despite him sitting out 10 minutes either side of half-time for a professional foul.

He has the knack of joining attacks at the perfect moment to either score or create a try, and after seeing Leeds full-back Lachie Miller score twice at Cas last week, that 6/4 about Brierley - implying a 40% probability - looks pretty appetising, especially now he is off and running in the scoring stakes after those two efforts last week.
