Dolphins vs roosters

Perhaps the outstanding contest of the NRL Premiership weekend takes place at Suncorp Stadium on Friday when the fifth-placed Dolphins host the Sydney Roosters, who are third (8pm local, 11am BST, Sky Sports+).

Kristian Woolf’s side are on a customary mid-season burst, having strung together five straight wins, while Easts come into this off a 26-0 spanking of the Raiders. My Dolphins vs Roosters predictions follow with all the team news and Betfred’s match odds.

Dolphins vs Roosters Odds

The Dolphins’ current form and the sheer scale of the Roosters’ Origin call-ups have combined to make the Fins big favourites.

The Redcliffe outfit are 1/2 for the win in 80 minutes, with Sydney 7/4. The draw can be backed at 16/1.

Team News

While the Chooks have to make a host of changes, Woolf is not without his issues either. Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, Selwyn Cobbo, Tom Flegler, Kulikefu Finefeuiaki and Max Plath are all away on Origin duty, meaning a number of call-ups for fringe players.

In come Trai Fuller at full-back, Tevita Naufahu on the wing, Felise Kaufusi at prop, Oryn Keeley in the back row and Brad Schneider to the bench.

Isaiya Katoa’s availability will be decided upon late in the day, with the NSW call-up expected to be released to play if Mitchell Moses is declared fit for Game II.

Rugby League Odds

The Chooks are badly hit by Wednesday’s showdown at the MCG.

James Tedesco, Robert Toia, Mark Nawaqanitawase, Sam Walker, Victor Radley, Lindsay Collins and Reece Robson are all on rep duty, so Trent Robinson has to make seven key changes to his squad.

Cody Ramsey, Reece Foley, Egan Butcher and Tommy Talau all come in for starts, while Daly Cherry-Evans switches to scrum-half with Hugo Savala sliding across from centre to stand-off in Walker’s absence.

Salesi Foketi gets a start at loose-forward with Radley away, while there are five alterations among the six bench spots.

Dolphins by 1-12 @ 21/10

Great though the Roosters were last week, they simply can’t roll on with a similar performance when seven of their better players are away playing for their state.

And while the Dolphins are far from unchanged themselves, there still feels like an element of continuity about their line-up.

This won’t be a straightforward win, but I do fancy the Fins to keep up their excellent recent run as some of those being promoted to the starting lineup have had a fair say in that uptick in results over the past month-and-a-half.

Dolphins Over 32.5 Total Points @ 6/4

The Dolphins are not shy about getting at opponents, and while they haven’t quite hit the destructive heights yet of last summer when they destroyed opponents on the regular, they have still strung together some great attacking performances.

They have scored 28, 44, 32, 30 and 40 in their five-game winning streak at an average of 34.8 per game, and I fancy them to satisfy this range at 6/4 and an implied 40% probability.
