17:20 Gulfstream Park (Race 1) – Dilly Dally (4) @ SP
The card starts off with a low key maiden claimer. The leader in the clubhouse is Serenity Path (2). She has ran second in her last four starts on dirt. Besides that nagging doubt about whether she wants to win, she seems vulnerable an unexposed runner in here.
The most likely is Dilly Dally (4). She was beaten nine lengths on her career debut but she was right there until deep stretch. Her trainer Dave Braddy has a good record with second-time starters. In addition, she drops in class from a Florida bred maiden special weight to a bottom end maiden claimer. She is now ridden by a jockey riding plenty of winners at this meet.
The biggest danger to the selection may be Rae's Creek (5). She is a debutante who is a half sister to a few winners. Her trainer Steve Kelsaris is in good form. His record with newcomers is pretty decent. A market move for her or Farewell Charlotte (1) or Daddy's Love (8) may be significant.
Both fillies didn’t show much on debut. In the case of Farewell Charlotte (1) it was in a much higher-priced maiden claimer. Daddy's Love (8) was too green to do herself justice on debut at Tampa in January.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
19:05 Gulfstream Park (Race 4) – Serrania(3) @ SP
With rain forecast, there must be a good chance this race gets switched from the turf to The Tapeta. That may play against Sunfish (1). The one time she raced on the grass, she missed by a head at today’s maiden claiming level. She was in deep on Tapeta next time but ran too bad to be true.
The rail drawn runner is a tough read. Less so Mo Town Soul (6). She improved second time out and for more ground. Under today’s rider Lionel Reyes, she ran second in a maiden claimer here. With tactical speed, she is a player no matter what the footing.
Like Mo Town Soul (6), Serrania(3) is scheduled to try the turf for the first time. Her dam had form on the grass. So far she’s only raced on Tapeta. She was slowly away on debut but ran much better second time out.
The three-year-old ran well for a long away in a maiden special weight sprinting. She’s bred to handle a mile and looks a player running for sale for the first time. She is now ridden by Miguel Vasquez who has a super strike rate for her trainer. Lots to like.
Camber (4) must be some kind of ugly duckling for a daughter of Gunner Runner to make only $20k at the sales. She may be a bargain as she’s worked like she has plenty of ability in the mornings. There are no monsters in this line up. If she can run as well in the afternoon, she will be very competitive.
Sweet Taste (2) is a stablemate of the selection. She can’t be written off based on one start when in much deeper. Cajun Empress (5) is another filly running first time for sale. She has shown ability on her routes despite swimming in much deeper waters.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
20:05 Gulfstream Park (Race 6) – Pebble Beach (5) @ SP
It'll be interesting to see if this race stays on turf or gets switched to The Tapeta. The dam of Gotta Be Madison (6) handled both surfaces. So far the speedster has only raced on synthetics. Her latest start was her best to date. She was narrowly ran down by an improving filly.
There is a good chance she makes the lead on her own and easier than last time. Her connections have booked a 7lb claiming rider. She may be tough to reel in.
Street Play (2) and Divine Secrets (7) have shown ability in limited chances. The last named may improve for nine weeks freshening. Maybe a well-meant first time starter is more dangerous. Dependence (1) and Epic Romance (4) go for very capable trainers. Both have been working forwardly in the mornings. Keep an eye on the market for them.
Second time starter Pebble Beach (5) is a little interesting. She made her debut over a mile in March and never ran a step. Top trainer Saffie Joseph cuts her back sharply for career race number two. Her dam was a capable sprinter. This spot may be just a sighter before she goes over further.
You don’t win as many races at a high strike as her trainer by running over the wrong trip. If she is a decent price, she may be worth a small interest.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
