20:06 Aqueduct (Race 6) – The Garland of Roses Stakes – Patricia Ann (2) @ SP
Many chances here with the likely favourites drawn towards the outside. With the Angels (6) suffered her first defeat in six career starts when second in a conditions last month. She could resume winning ways but may be a tad overbet. Since winning on her debut at even money, she has been odds on for all her races. Hold Your Breath (8) will get the jump on her. She wired an allowance field at Parx by almost ten lengths last months. The switch to the dirt really suited her. Her trainer John Servis is no stranger to success when he ships to New York.
Two fillies needing to rebound are well worth considering. Tricky Temper (7) did have to be steadied when in deeper in a Grade 3 at Woodbine last month. She is a player off her three runs prior to that. Not for the first time, Sunday Girl (5) spun her wheel in the slop in her most recent race. Her fourth in a deep state bred stake in October is contending form. She loses Flavien Prat to With the Angels (6) but that will only help her price. Sahin Civaci is a more than adequate replacement.
Reliable Lady (1) wired an entry level allowance field by eight lengths in late October. If that run wasn’t a freak, she can win this. Patricia Ann (2) has many races this year that make her competitive. She has been second best to a pair of talented sprinters in her last two races. The four year old meets no monsters here. This is her best chance to win for a long time.
The Big Calhouna (4) has back races that give her a chance.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
20:35 Aqueduct (Race 7) – The Comely (Grade 3) – Fully Subscribed (6) @ SP
This is a deep and quality renewal. One of the key questions is will the hat-trick seeking Kappa Kappa (5) handle the extra ground here. She is improving, taking a Grade 3 at Keeneland in October. In her favour is likely having the early speed to clear this field early. If John Velazquez has her relaxed on the front, nine furlongs may be within her compass. Her trainer Butch Reid is always to be respected when he ships in to The Big Apple.
Kappa Kappa (5) is not the only progressive three year old in this line up. Fully Subscribed (6) has improved in all her four career starts. She was a four length winner of a Grade 2 over course and distance last month with Ourdaydreaminggirl (3) back in fifth. She looks the safest play here but won’t be a great price being trained by Chad Brown and Flavien Prat riding. The filly that narrowly beat her in September was trained by Brad Cox. He runs the hat-trick seeking Yes It Tiz (7) here. She gets a class test but is two from two since trying the dirt.
Trainer Todd Pletcher is double handed. His Noticeable (1) gets a class hike after breaking her maiden in September. She is only twice-raced so could be anything. Her stablemate Ruth (4) ran second in a stake to a filly on a roll here last month. The step up to today’s distance really improved her.
Quietside (8) finished well behind Kappa Kappa (5) last time. She was coming off over a five month lay off since running down the field in The Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks. She had won back to back graded stakes at Oaklawn prior to Churchill Downs. She is a rebound candidate second time back after an absence. Her trainer John Ortiz has fine record with the few runners he’s had at this meet.

20:49 Gulfstream (Race 8) – Vladislav (2) @ SP
Many chances here. Trainer Victor Barboza is double handed. His Blue Slide Park (7) ran a neck second in a similar event over course and distance in October. He is a player off that run. However, it may be worth siding with his stablemate Vladislav (2). He ran well for a long way in a slightly higher priced claimer here last month. The six year old paid the price for chasing the leader who went plenty fast enough on the front. He’s on a long, losing run but most of those defeats were in better races. If he breaks on terms, he may be on or close to soft early fractions.
Mr Scatter (4) won well here in October. He was claimed off a runner up try last month. His new trainer has a sharp horse on his hands. The worry with him is his lagging running style in a race where it may pay to be forwardly placed. Pet Mat (6) finished a couple of lengths behind him last time. He’s now ran below his best in back to back starts. A repeat of his winning form in September would likely to be good enough to win this.
Brother Brad (5) ran in two races at Monmouth in the summer he couldn’t win. He makes his comeback plunging in class. The eight year old has been working well and has a look of a live runner.
Vino Santo (1) ran in the same race as the selection last time. He didn’t run with as much promise but was drawn wide. Like him, he has some speed. If his 5lb claimer reverts to aggressive riding tactics, he can go well here.
