20:30 Turfway Park (Race 2) – Cadenza (10) @ SP

It will be interesting to see how they bet this race. Believe in Magic (1) has the best form. She has been placed in two stakes including a near $1,000,000 one at Kentucky Downs. They were on turf but she has worked well on The Tapeta here. She has the tactical speed to make the most of her rail draw. Her trainer Bill Morey has started this meet off well and Flavien Prat is a good jockey booking. She’s strictly the gal to beat.

For Cadenza (10) to beat Believe in Magic (1) and the rest, she will need to improve. That is very likely as she’s only twice raced and Brad Cox is her trainer. She broke her maiden at Saratoga on the turf in late August. The fillies that finished behind have by and large ran well since. She’s been back work locally for some time and has some nice drills to her name.

Back Ring Buzz (4) ran fourth at this level over a mile at Churchill last month. She runs as if the cut back to six furlongs will suit. She’s a possibility along with Music Burst (3). At Churchill last month, she improved off her debut to wire a field of maidens. Like her, reserve Spinelli (13) has speed. She came back to form when second in a similar event at Gulfstream. If she gets in this race, she’s worth considering.

Mia's Go (11) may go off a big price as she beat winners at Mahoning Valley last time. She did run a competitive speed figure and the runner up scored by four lengths next time. Bramble Blast (8) will get a bit more respect after two good efforts at Aqueduct and Laurel. Annie's Allie (12), Jenny Lake (6) and Bo Zocka (5) meet tougher fields than they did when breaking their maidens. The first named did it on debut and impressively. Bo Zocka (5) goes for a trainer known for improving runners with racing.

20:30 Turfway Park - Winner
Cadenza

Odds correct at time of publishing.

21:52 Oaklawn Park (Race 8) – The Poinsettia Stakes - Hillerito (2) @ SP

Hillerito (2) looks to be a worthy short-priced favourite. She’s a five year old who only made her career debut eighteen months ago. Her record is six victories from eight starts. She’s really upped her game since joining trainer David Jacobson. Her only loss for him came by a length to a quality filly. She won a stake at her first attempt at Churchill last month. It was only by a head but she turned over an odds on previous Grade 2 winner. She bobbled at the start and had to show a new dimension to her game, stalking the pace.

Benedetta (4) is likely to be second favourite. She was second best in a stake at Mahoning Valley on her return. The four year old was coming off a lay off. She is a two-time stakes winner including one over course and distance last winter. At her best, she finishes her races better than her rivals. If Hillerito (2) is softened up on the front end, she is very capable of winning this.

Tapit Quick (1) comes off back to back places in deep conditions races in Kentucky. She may need the market leaders to falter to get more than a minor award. Jersey Pearl (6) may be a bit more of a threat. She was beaten into third by Hillerito (2) last time. Her jockey had no choice but to gun her from her draw. Now from the outside post, she may get a better trip. She is a possible upsetter.

Kant Believe It (5) ran like she needed her comeback at Hawthorne. Her best two races have come when winning over course and distance. She looks a ‘cut below’ but may be a pace factor at least.

21:52 Oaklawn Park - Winner
Hillerito

Odds correct at time of publishing.

22:30 Turfway Park (Race 6) – The My Charmer Stakes – Literate (3) @ SP

The Woodbine and former Woodbine based runners will be to the fore in the market. Caitlinhergrtness (2) is the best of them. She has ran a trio of fine races in Canada since dropping in class from a Grade 1. The four year old won a Grade 3 before coming up just short in a pair of other graded stakes. She is reunited with Flavien Prat who was aboard for her last victory. She’s the deserving favourite but is likely to be a skinny price.

The late running Queens Command (4) didn’t run to her best when behind Caitlinhergrtness (2) in October. She is better judged on a head defeat in a Grade 3 at Woodbine last month. Cutting back to a mile may not be ideal but she should get speed to chase down. Literate (3) could be a little closer to the pace early on. She beat Caitlinhergrtness (2) on the square to win a Grade 3 in July. Her first run for trainer Brad Cox last month was not a good one. It was on dirt. Getting back on synthetics are reasons to think she will run a lot better. She may be the play as the likely second favourite.

The Woodbine horses are proven on Tapeta but have never raced at Turfway. At least they have form on the surface. That can’t be said for a few in here. Turf runner She's Lookin Lucky (9) has ran well in defeat in her last two starts in Kentucky. She may be a price so it could be worth chancing she handles the footing. The former Argentine based Nanabush (5) finished behind her last time. She ran well the way the race was run. The five year old could outrun her odds with a better trip. She will have to avoid a speed duel with the likes of Landed (6). Wes Ward’s filly is a quality New York bred who is dangerous if loose on the lead.

The former Henry De Bromhead trained Vina Arana (7) has won two out of three Stateside. She may have better to come after a long time away during her three year old season. Louder Than Words (11) is a top Indiana bred but is tested for class here. Next Up (8) needs to improve but is a progressive three year old. She broke her maiden by a space on her one start at Turfway. She is one to be interested in at maybe a double-figure price.

22:30 Turfway Park - Winner
Literate

Odds correct at time of publishing.
