22:20 Oaklawn Park (Race 9) - Carolyncaroline @ SP
Counting Stars (6) was a four-length winner of a maiden at Churchill on debut. On the back of that, she was fancied to win a stake at Keeneland. She ran too bad to be true. It may be unwise to dismiss especially considering the promise of her first start. She is a player in a stake of many chances. So too are Victory Music (2) and Carolyncaroline (5).
Both fillies come off good seconds against winners at Churchill. Victory Music (2) had been away for three months so may improve. Carolyncaroline (5) had been stepped up in class to a Grade 2 over a mile on turf. She ran better over seven furlongs on dirt last time. There is speed to chase down here so may be able to outfinish this field cutting back in trip.
Glazin' Fury (3), Runadhara (4), Walk Away Kaye (7) and Debbie Doll (8) are all last time out maiden winners. Runadhara (4) is improving. Walk Away Kaye (7) did well to graduate first time out. Debbie Doll (8) ran the highest speed figure of the trio. She was the subject of a private purchase after all the way score at Churchill Downs. Like Walk Away Kaye (7), there may be a lot better to come from her.
Front Runnin (10) has rattled up a hat-trick at three different tracks and three different levels. She is improving at rate of knots and is not out of this.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
22:47 Oaklawn Park (Race 10) - You'll Be Back @ SP
The returning You'll Be Back (12) is strictly the runner to beat here. She’s had a diet of stakes events since breaking her maiden. In the latest, she ran second in a Grade 3 at Pimlico. The winner backed that up with a clear-cut victory in another graded event. She’s not raced since May. The three-year-old defied a similar absence to break her maiden last year. She has been working well. With the prospect of speed to chase down, she may be worth siding with.
Gin's Beach Road (6) could be a playable alternative to the selection. She broke her maiden by open lengths at Churchill in September. Since then, she had a wide trip at Keeneland and didn’t seem to stay seven-and-a-half furlongs back at Churchill. She has tactical speed so may be positioned to her advantage just off the pacesetters. Liuzza (2) is a big more exposed than her. She is a big player off a six-length claiming win in September. The four-year-old was in deep next time so that loss is not as bad as it looks.
Spring Dancer (1) broke her maiden on turf last month but has ran well on the dirt here. The rider of Kentucky Smokeshow (9) went plenty fast enough on the front end last time. She could make the frame if ridden a little less aggressively. Clique (3) and Ce La Vi Charli (5) are other place chances. Reserve Filly Crystal (14) seems more of a win candidate if she gets in off her best form in New York.
Up On the Edge (8) is totally exposed and was beaten in a mid-range claimer at Keeneland last time. They are normally not the required credentials to win a race of this nature. She runs first time for David Jacobson who can perform an equine miracle or two.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
