19:25 Sunland Park - Good Lovin (9) @ SP
Many chances here, with GOOD LOVIN (9) getting the vote.
He’s been in sharp form since coming to Sunland. A two-length victory over Tsunami Gold (4) was followed by a runner up try to a decent yardstick. He’s been running over further but has the pace to sit handy over today’s distance.
Turf Paradise-based trainer Juan Pablo Silva is three-from-three with the runners he’s shipped so far to this Sunland meet. His Blue Cheese Olive (3) will take the more money of the pair. He’s on a hat-trick and can win for on or off the pace. The seven-year-old is one to consider for the forecast at very least.
His stablemate French Onion (5) won by seven lengths locally before being used up in a speed duel in Arizona.
Teddy's Triumph (1) did well to run down Discreet Tiger (8) from an unpromising position last month. He’s not out of this along with Red Leader (6). The wide margin winner last month may be fine claim for only five grand.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
20:15 Sunland Park - Held For Ransom (11) @ SP
Vols (3) returned to form when runner-up in a similar event to this one last month. He has to be reckoned with off that effort and he holds many of his rivals here.
The consistent Beer Money (7) ran his usual solid race when behind him. That can’t be said for HELD FOR RANSOM (11), who faded badly.
He was sent off favourite after back-to-back victories but the speedster got no breathers from the rail. There is likely to be a lot less pace in here to soften him up. In addition, he now draws near the outside. He must have a decent chance of rebounding.
Rapid Expansion (1) hasn’t raced since October. His red-hot trainer is very capable of bringing one back from an absence. He’s not out of this.
Neither is My Addiction (4). He was beaten seven lengths last time. Most of it was by a sharp runner who scored again in his next race.
Rainbow Crest (9) may show more speed and return to form racing in blinkers first time.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
21:05 Sunland Park - Touch Of Glam (10) @ SP
On paper at least, this is a competitive race. As high-percentage trainers Justin Evans and Dick Cappellucci are both double-handed, there may be a couple of key scratches.
On recent form, Third Street (2) is the first string for Evans. He defied an absence when wiring slightly cheaper claimers over course and distance last month. He may be able to double up. It appears Luis Valenzuela gets off stablemate Wegonahavagoodtime (11) to ride him. He drops in class and has back races that make him very competitive.
Cappellucci’s Dance Man (6) hasn’t since winning at Albuquerque in October. His trainer has a fine record with lay off runners.
Maybe his stablemate TOUCH OF GLAM (10) is the answer here.
He won well first time for his trainer in November. The five-year-old was second best at odds-on over two months later. He could never put in a challenge to the winner who was afforded a soft lead. There appears to be more speed to chase down here.
Like Justin Evans and Dick Cappellucci, Sherry Armstrong is in fine form at this meet. She runs Sexy Dexy (7) here. The veteran has a chance of being loose on the lead here. His jockey Ricardo Jaime doesn’t win many races these days. He is two for twelve when he rides for Armstrong.
Ham Sandwich (1) has been placed in his last starts. Both at today’s level. The inconsistent Sanger (9) finished behind him last time. He has a chance of posting the upset off a couple of efforts in October and November. We Need Marketing (5) gets class relief. Major Contender (3) is a little interesting cutting back from a mile.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
