19:25 - Sunland Park Race 1 - Royal Lineage (6) @ SP
All of these ran in a race at this level over course and distance on 19 January. Royal Lineage (6) did the best of them finishing third. He attended contested early fractions and kept on pretty well. The five year old gets off the rail which gives his rider tactical options. He’s hardly stands out over his rivals but has a decent chance of confirming the form.
Nobody's Perfect (4) has a couple of lengths to find with the selection from last time. He has back races that make him dangerous. A repeat of his victory form at Zia Park in November would be good enough to win this.
Sapello Sicario (3) has a chance of making the lead on his own. His chances increase if Ronchetti (2) who is doubly-declared is scratched.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
20:17 - Sunland Park Race 3 - Blazing to Gold (6) @ SP
The key to the outcome is the fitness of the comebacking Blocked (4). At his best, he is superior to his rivals. The six year old has form in Oklahoma and Texas that will win this race with a length or two to spare. He’s not raced since last July. His new trainer Justin Evans has a super record with lay off horses. His workout pattern is spotty but when he has drilled in the mornings, he’s gone really well.
Guessing how they will bet this race is tricky. Presuming Blazing to Gold (6) is second favourite, he may be worth chancing. He’s ran with credit in his last two starts in what were deep races for the level. The four year old drops back to arguably his best distance of five and a half furlongs.
Shame On Whiskey (1) made the lead and wired a field of New Mexico breds just under a fortnight ago. This looks tougher and others in here may be quicker early. One of them may be Speed Bump Bob (5). He has been freshened up since a fine effort at Zia Park seven weeks ago.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
20:43 - Sunland Park Race 4 - Held for Ransom (8) @ SP
The majority of this field ran in a similar race here on 19 January. That looked a good race for the level ran in a decent time. Truckin (1) did the best of them running second. He goes for a trainer on fire. Alfredo Juarez Jr. the last jockey to win on him now takes the ride. He now draws the rail which can be tricky with his stalking running style.
Held for Ransom (8) was made favourite to win the race Truckin (1) ran third in. That was after back to back victories. He drew the inside and was used up in a speed duel. Now he draws outside and has a chance of rebounding. His new trainer Joel Marr doesn’t claim many horses. He is very capable of turning him around.
Wrecking Storm (6) is aggressively spotted for his first start since May. Beer Money (7) is a one paced type who could round of the forecast or tricast if things drop his way.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
