22:11 Turf Paradise (Race 5) - Pepper Mill @ SP
Two mares are likely to take the most money here. Stay Sassy (7) won a stake at Emerald Downs in the summer. She ran second in another over course and distance on her return. The six year old has worked well since then suggesting she may come on from that run.
She will rightly have her supporters but preference is for PEPPER MILL (5). The six-year-old beat Go Go Sadie (1) here in March.
She made a fine comeback when third in a conditions event at Zia Park in November. The winner scored in a stakes event next time. She may need a heads-up ride as there is other speed in here.
Dads Estrella (4) is a cut below the best of these but may be a late player if they go hard up front. Likewise Two Bar (2) whose standout run came over a mile. Go Go Sadie (1) and Lotsa Lace (3) have been absent since the spring.
The pair may need a run. Arizona Reina (6) has been away even longer. She is likely to be an early factor.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
23:15 Turf Paradise (Race 7) - Our Bloke @ SP
A few chances here with Magoo (1) having better claims than most. He ran second in a higher-priced claimer at Canterbury in September. The rail drawn runner had been away three months when fifth at Zia Park on his return.
All his form is over a mile but he may have the pace to run his race cutting back to six furlongs. He now races in blinkers first time which may keep him within striking distance. The seven year old is now ridden by a jockey who has a fine record for his trainer.
OUR BLOKE (10) should get the jump on Magoo (1). The Canadian invader gets a narrow vote over him. He ran a close second in a claimer at Hastings in October. Three horses have come out of that race to win next time. He has tactical speed in a race where it may pay to be near the front. His veteran jockey Frank Alvarado is having a fine meet.
The selection was beaten on the square by Don't Have Another (8) at Emerald Downs in August. The late runner is a big player off that run. The worry with him is losing his form since being claimed away from his winning trainer in September. Maybe Gianola (5) is a better proposition. He did the best of a trio of these in a similar race to this one last month. The eight-year-old was beaten seven lengths but the winner scored again in better company next time.
Weekend Flame (6) may improve cutting back from a mile. He could be a late player. In contrast, Wednesday At Shady (9) has a chance if he gets clear early on. He may have company on the front end from the veteran Our Bold Prince (2). Roll Dem Bones (4) should improve stepping up from five furlongs. Ridin Solo (3) is more realistically spotted after being overmatched on his local debut.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
