A non-runner overnight for our Thursday Nap of the Day was backed-up by a miss with our Extra Place Race pick at big odds.

Neil Monnery is heading to Charles Town and Laurel Park for his two selections from US Racing later tonight, including a Nap who has won four of her past five races...

Nap of the Day:

No result from overnight for our Thursday Nap of the Day as Spectacular Force was scratched, so was declared a non-runner.

For tonight, we head into the wee small hours and have the opportunity to back a horse who has won three times on the spin at what should be half-decent odds. It is Charles Town in West Virginia that has attracted me and the 02:02 where Waterloo Rose has been having a sensational six-year-old campaign.

This Mare has been racing since 2020 and had only racked up two victories in 37 starts until the calendar turned over to 2024 when suddenly, she has become one of the most reliable horses at this track. She has won four of her past five and the speed numbers have improved considerably.

A year ago she was averaging an Equibase Speed Figure in the mid 40s but this year those numbers have jumped. In her last three outings, they have been 76, 79 and 76 again. That is quite the up tick in form and there is no reason not to like her again tonight to continue with her recent success.

Priced up at 9/5 in the US Pools, we would expect a similar figure when the market gets priced up on betfred.com later in the day.

Extra Place Bet of the Day:

A decent selection of races this evening where Betfred are paying out three places rather than two and I’m really pushing the boat out with my biggest priced selection of the week.

We head to Laurel Park and the 19:29 where the sixth-choice in the US Pools has a legitimate chance of hitting the board and paying out for the each-way bet.

Bourbon Wildcat has been really consistent so far in her 2024 campaign and her fourth-placed finish last time out stopped the run of four-straight third-place finishes.

Her Equibase Speed Figures have been between 74 and 80 in her last five starts and the favourite in this race has averaged an 80 across the same period. So I like this seven-year-old to be competitive and when you see the pools have her priced up at 12/1, if we get anything like that value when the markets are set in the UK, this is a great bet for an Extra Place Race.
