Horse Racing Tips: Cha Cha to keep Snowden in the groove

Jumps and AW racing holds sway across the UK on Thursday, with four meetings taking place across the afternoon and into the evening. 

First up is Exeter, before they go at Southwell and Chelmsford. Among our Thursday fancies are two from trainer Jamie Snowden, who looks set to continue his fine start to the season.

12:30 Exeter - Lasko Des Obeaux @ 8/11

This four-year-old, a half-brother to the smart chaser Haddex Des Obeaux, was bought for £120,000 after finishing second in his point-to-point in Ireland. The winner, Lemmy Caution, was purchased by Gigginstown House Stud for £250,000 and is now in training with Gordon Elliott.

Lasko Des Obeaux finished second on his hurdling debut for Harry Derham at Chepstow in November, over four lengths behind Doctors Hill. He was sent off the even-money favourite that day, but had no extra once headed before the last.

The winner has since been placed in a competitive handicap at Wincanton and is now rated 116, so that was a solid effort against a much more experienced rival.

He will have clearly learned a lot that day and, with improvement to come, this looks a good opportunity for him to get off the mark over hurdles.

13:00 Exeter - Hollygrove Cha Cha @ 5/6

Jamie Snowden continues to have his team in good nick so far this season, so it looks worth siding with Hollygrove Cha Cha.

She was rated 127 over hurdles and went 3-5, which included a win in the Grade 2 Jane Seymour Mares' Novice at Sandown.

On her chase debut she was up against much more experienced rivals in Grade 3 winner Resplendent Grey and Grade 1 winner Handstands. Despite doing an awful lot wrong in the race, she was only beaten just over two lengths.

The five-year-old mare jumped out to her right at times and jumped novicey, so her effort can be marked up and deserves a lot of credit for getting herself into contention before a mistake at the last.

If she can brush up her jumping and make the most of a useful weight allowance, she could prove tough to beat and go on to better things this season.
