Friday Racing Tips: Miss Cynthia to show what she’s made of at Wetherby

A mixture of jumps and all-weather racing is on offer across the UK and Ireland on Friday with five meetings taking place across the afternoon and into the evening.

First off is Lingfield before they go at Wetherby and Fontwell. The evening sees action under the floodlights at Newcastle and Dundalk. Among our Friday fancies is one for trainer Dan Skelton who has been lightly raced this season and will be looking to capitalise on a workable mark.

15:20 Wetherby - Miss Cynthia @ 13/2

MISS CYNTHIA has run just twice this season but she certainly made an impact last time out and there should be more to come from her.

She made her belated reappearance at Kempton and very much looked like she needed a run after her extended break. She ran towards the rear in the early part of the race before making some nice headway, but looked to have run her race after jumping the second last and faded gradually. It was a slightly disappointing performance but an understandable one given the break she had.

However she bounced back in the best way possible last time out when taking a dominant win, dropped back in trip at Fakenham in January. She was a touch fortunate in that the favourite unseated her rider at the last. But she was making good headway before that and may well have won anyway. She looked back to her best and there should be more to come.

This looks very much her level and she has been put up only 1lb for her win so she should go well again.

15:30 Fontwell - Ronnies Reflection @ 11/4

RONNIES REFLECTION has been tough to follow this season having run well, especially since the turn of the year, but so far enjoyed only minimal success.

After a good season last year when he won twice at Leicester, he has yet to hit those heights this time, finishing second three times this campaign. He had a touch of bad luck last time out at Leicester, where after running strongly through the early part of the race, a slight mistake jumping a fence down the back straight took a lot of momentum out of him and he had to work hard to get back into it. He did so reasonably well, but had to settle for third place, finishing some way back from the first two home.

His consistency suggests that it can only be a matter of time before he crosses the finish line first. Today’s slight drop back in trip may help and if he can get round cleanly another strong performance looks to be on the cards.

17:30 Newcastle - Anthropologist @ 6/1

Having been sold in October, ANTHROPOLOGIST has been steadily improving this winter for his new connections and he looks set to go well again after a narrow defeat last time out.

After back-to-back sixth places for his new owners he showed he was on the right trajectory with an eye-catching fourth place at Southwell. Racing toward the rear, he was briefly short of room entering the final two furlongs but kept on well and showed that he was on the right path.

He followed that up with an agonising second place last time out. Again being held up and making a move for the lead with two furlongs left to go and took up the running entering the final half furlong only to be reeled in in the final few strides. He has shown that he is doing all the correct things and it is surely only a matter of time before he lands a race like this.
