Tuesday Racing Tips: Talk can walk the walk at Newmarket

There are a total of five fixtures scheduled across Britain and Ireland on Tuesday, the highlight being opening day of the Craven Meeting at Newmarket.
Among our Tuesday racing tips is one for Charlie Appleby, who ran well in Listed company at Meydan earlier this year, despite doing plenty wrong.

14:25 Newmarket - Talk Of New York @ 4/7
The Charlie Appleby-trained TALK OF NEW YORK didn’t have things go to plan when turned over at odds-on at Meydan in February, but it was a big run in the circumstances, a repeat of which should be good enough to see him land this conditions event.
A ready odds-on winner on his debut over a mile at Kempton in October, he was backed as if defeat was out the question in the Listed Jumeirah 2,000 Guineas in Dubai earlier this year, but pulled fiercely under restraint and found himself poorly positioned when running wide turning for home.
He made a good fist of it under William Buick, briefly pressing for the lead entering the final furlong, but his early exuberance ultimately took its toll and he gradually faded to finish third.
A drop in trip ought to help him settle and he could outclass this field before taking in the Betfred 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on May 2.

15:00 Newmarket - Hardy's Hero each-way @ 8/1
William Haggas has a host of big chances over the three days of the Craven meeting with the first of them, HARDY’S HERO, returning to action in a race his trainer has won for each of the last two seasons.
The selection did well at two, winning back-to-back starts over 6f at Haydock and Carlisle in August and September prior to finishing in the mid-division on his handicap debut upped to 7f at Newbury off a mark of 82.
He was comfortably held at the Berkshire course, but didn’t see much in the way of daylight and should well return to winning ways off a 2lb lower mark following a winter off and a gelding operation.

18:00 Lingfield - Sail On Sailor @ 9/2
There was a lot to like about the run of SAIL ON SAILOR on his reappearance/debut for Simon Dow at Kempton last month and any improvement on that will make him hard to beat.
The selection failed to kick on having shown a modicum of promise early on for Brett Johnson last year, but he’s since switched yard and ran with plenty of encouragement over 7f at the Sunbury track, the son of Eqtidaar doing much of his best work in the closing stages to finish second of the seven runners.
A half-brother to five individual winners, the best being Mostawa who had winning form over a mile and 1m1f, so this additional furlong should suit and you’d expect him to have sharpened up for that comeback.
