NAP of the Day: Revoir can wave her Ponte rivals goodbye

Nap of the day generic

The post-Royal Ascot blues will be settling on Sunday, as Flat racing's biggest five-day fixture came to a conclusion on Saturday. It's worth noting that the fun doesn't stop there though, and we have fixtures from Pontefract, Hexham and Brighton to look forward to.

Pontefract provides the best racing from a quality point of view and their feature race is the Listed Pontefract Castle Fillies' Stakes. This 1m4f event for fillies and mares aged four and upwards has attracted a field of 10 and it should be fiercely competitive.

Our expert's best bet of the day runs here and the horse in question is a consistent Ralph Beckett-trained filly. A return to winning ways could be on the agenda for her, although there are some other decent entries among the field who could push her all the way.

15:05 Pontefract - Revoir @ 11/4

Ralph Beckett has won this race four times in the last decade, including each of the last two renewals, and he could complete the hat-trick with REVOIR here. She's a consistent performer, despite not winning too often of late, and this looks like a good opportunity for her.

Revoir made only one start as a juvenile and she coped well with the heavy ground to score by a length-and-a-quarter at Nottingham back in October 2024. Beckett's filly was next seen finishing second narrowly to a subsequent Group 2 winner in a Listed race at Newbury.

Things didn't quite go to plan when well beaten in the Oaks, but she came very close to winning again in Listed races at Salisbury and Longchamp after that. It's important to note that she doesn't seem to be remotely ground dependent and versatility always helps.

Perhaps her best effort came in the Group 3 Princess Royal Stakes at Newmarket in September. She was a little keen in the early stages of the race, but that didn't stop her from staying on strongly and seeing out the 1m4f trip well in the end.

It was a good effort from her on seasonal debut at Haydock and she battled on gamely to finish second, after being headed inside the final furlong. If she fails to step forward and return to winning ways here, the daughter of Study Of Man might need a drop in class.

William Haggas' improving filly Orionis was a very comfortable winner in handicap company last time out and it wouldn't be a surprise if she develops into a Listed performer. Coedana looks capable of making the frame too, while Ryka is a previous winner at this level.

Her trainer's recent record in this race is certainly eye-catching and you would imagine that she's not being sent on the long trip to Pontefract just for a day out.
