Horse Racing Tips: Sea to strike Gold at Dundalk

Th weather has affected the racing programme scheduled to take place across the UK and Ireland on Friday, with both Huntingdon and Southwell having already been called off.
Of the five meetings remaining, Wolverhampton, Naas and Exeter all face inspections to check whether they can go ahead, while AW cards at Newcastle and Dundalk look set to go ahead. Amongst our horse racing tips for Friday, all from Dundalk, is one for trainer Joseph O’Brien who showed up well at the same track last time out.
Horse Racing Tips - Friday, January 9
- 16:30 Dundalk - Goldinthesea @ 9/4
- 17:05 Dundalk - Astronomically @ 9/4

16:30 Dundalk - Goldinthesea @ 9/4
Joseph O’Brien’s GOLDINTHESEA, a €130,000 breeze-up purchase, made a pleasing debut here in December over 7f when finishing third behind more experienced rivals in a maiden. He showed a professional attitude throughout, travelled well and looked to know his job, only beaten just over two lengths at the line.
That initial effort should have brought him forward and he is entitled to show marked improvement with that run under his belt.
He is related to several winners between 1m and 1m2f, so this step up in trip looks sure to suit and could unlock further progress.
This race appears weaker than the contest he faced on debut and, with every reason to expect improvement, he sets a solid standard and looks the one to beat.

17:05 Dundalk - Astronomically @ 9/4
ASTRONOMICALLY was sent off at 28/1 on her debut over 7f here in October and ran a cracker, out running her odds to finish fourth, beaten just over a length.
Donnacha O’Brien’s three-year-old No Nay Never filly showed plenty again on her second start, finishing a close second behind the Juddmonte’s well-bred Prevalence. She kept on strongly to the line and, with plenty of stamina in her pedigree, this step up in trip should give her a real chance of progressing further.
She is up against another well-bred Juddmonte filly making her debut, but Astronomically can put her experience to good use and get off the mark at the third attempt.

19:15 Dundalk - Diamond Exchange @ 11/8
DIAMOND EXCHANGE is still a maiden after five attempts and faces a break of over 200 days here, but this race looks weak and, if fit enough, she should go close.
She holds the best form on offer, having finished second to Aiden O’Brien’s filly Butterfly Wings in a maiden at Leopardstown in May. The winner went on to contest three group races, including a fourth behind Minnie Hauk in the Irish Oaks.
Her subsequent run was a little disappointing, finishing sixth at the Curragh when stepped up in trip, before a third on her latest start behind the now 98-rated In My Teens at Down Royal in June.
She makes her AW debut here, but if she can reproduce her Leopardstown effort from May she should be hard to beat.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
