NAP of the Day: I’m enchanted by this 2/1 shot at Southwell

Nap of the day with owen mcmahon 2

No joy at Chester on Wednesday and Thursday's card looks even trickier, so I'm looking elsewhere for the NAP of the Day.

Specifically, to Southwell, for one my Taylor Swift-loving sister would all over...

James Doyle heads to Southwell for one ride on Thursday - the Karl Burke-trained ENCHANT for employer Wathnan Racing in a six-furlong fillies' novice event.

The three-year-old daughter of Wootton Basset, who's out of a Listed-winning Galileo mare, is making her return from 319 days off the track since making a winning debut at Pontefract in June last year.

A £300k breeze-up buy just two months earlier, she ran out a cosy winner of a three-runner affair in West Yorkshire, beating Tim Easterby's Bleep Test by half a length. She's a decent yardstick with a rating of 83.

That was despite a slow start and being "on the weak side" according to jockey-on-the-day Sam James, who also said: "She's going to improve a hell of a lot throughout the year".

As it goes, she wasn't seen again, indicating an issue. That or it was decided she needed time to fill out and mature. I suspect the former, considering she was entered but ultimately not declared for a Group 3 at Ascot in July.

Either way, I'm hoping she's done a lot of growing up over the past 10-and-a-bit months and is a more polished article that's ready to kick on and confirm the promise she showed us at Ponte.

If she's ready to do herself justice on reappearance, which I'm optimistic about given her address, she takes the beating for me in this company.

That's no disrespect to Bintaryana, who looks a smart one for William Knight. She was disappointing on debut at Haydock in October, but looked a different proposition at Nottingham last month. The half-sister to Group 3-winning sprinter Diligent Harry has a mark of 74 and I'm sure she'll run to at least that. I just don't think it'll be enough.

Similar comments apply to Ismail Mohammed's Jumeriah Sands. She improved at least a stone for her debut at Wolverhampton last August to win over Thursday's course and distance exactly 28 days ago. That wasn't a great race, though, and more is needed here.

For me, it concerns the aforementioned duo, with preference for the exciting Enchant.
