Nap of the Day: Inedit D’amour to shine for top Carlisle team

Nap of the day generic

There are three meetings across Britain and Ireland on Sunday, with jumps action holding sway at Fairyhouse, Carlisle and Leicester. The main dish is from Fairyhouse, where no less than six of their eight races are at Graded/Listed level, including two Grade 1s.

Sunday's Nap of the Day ran third on his UK racecourse bow recently and bids to improve on that back at Carlisle, where his trainer and jockey have a particularly strong record.

Donald McCain and Brian Hughes are the leading trainer and jockey respectively at Carlisle across the last five seasons, with the handler showing a +5.75 profit to level stakes from nearly 200 runners at this venue in that time.

They combine in the John Budden Memorial British EBF 'National Hunt' Novices' Hurdle with French import INEDIT D'AMOUR on what will be just his second start on these shores.

He ran here three weeks ago in a contest featuring a 1/6 favourite from the Dan Skelton team, Real Quartz, who scored readily on his first start under Rules after changing hands for £190k, with Hughes' mount settling for third.

Inedit D'amour has plenty of experience jumping from his time with Francois Nicolle in his native France, but he lacked a bit of fluency that afternoon on his first outing since February.

Hughes set a sedate pace in the early stages of that contest, with none of his five rivals looking to go forward, and it might have contributed to some less-than-fluent hurdling.

Inedit D'amour should benefit from the run and is tried here in cheekpieces on his second start for the McCain team.

He has 11 rivals joining him for this contest, and he steps up in trip here and may benefit from getting a lead. With cobwebs now blown off, a much better effort is expected in what doesn't appear to be the strongest of novices' contests.

Newcomer The Burren Man for Harry Derham, Ayr bumper winner Blofeld for Rebecca Menzies and Wetherby maiden hurdle runner-up Milan Park for Chris Grant are a trio worth keeping an eye on in the market.

But, this four-year-old French recruit surely has the ability to improve on his debut third here, however, especially if the headgear has a positive effect.

He's fancied to continue the excellent course record of the McCain/Hughes combo.
