Nap of the day generic

There are five meetings set to take place across Britain and Ireland on Monday and the jumping action is provided by Roscommon over in Ireland, while it's Flat racing all the way in Britain, with fixtures from Carlisle, Leicester, Windsor and Pontefract.

Windsor's feature race is a Class 2 Windsor Sprint series qualifier, with a prize fund of £30,000 on offer, and a competitive field of nine has been declared. This 5f event is probably the race of the day and you won't want to miss it.

Our Nap of the Day runs here and the Clive Cox-trained three-year-old can take full advantage of the 7lb allowance. In good form towards the back end of last season, there should be plenty more to come from him.

19:39 Windsor - Bassenthwaite @ 11/1

There are several intriguing candidates to consider in this race, such as Charles Hills' Trefor, who showed signs of a return to form when fourth last time out.

Meanwhile, seven-year-old Regal Envoy has been in good form so far this season and Oisin Murphy has been booked for the ride.

Don't rule out the lightly raced Society Kiss either, but it’s Clive Cox's three-year-old BASSENTHWAITE who gets the nod on this occasion. He remains lightly raced, especially in handicap company and there could be loads more improvement to come this term.

A little below-par on seasonal debut at Newcastle, the stiff 6f didn't suit on that occasion and coming back down in trip will definitely help. All of his previous runs have come over 5f, obviously including both of his previous career successes.

Getting off the mark in a Ffos Las novice back in July, that form has been boosted significantly since, as the runner-up has since gone on to win in Listed company. Cox's gelding was strong at the finish that day and saw the trip out well.

He managed to win a handicap at the second time of asking at Wolverhampton in November. Clearly he was much too good for his rivals on that occasion and he kicked clear in very good style to score by four-and-a-quarter lengths off a mark of 81.

Horses don't win 5f races by that sort of margin too often and he should be capable of defying his current handicap mark of 92 on that evidence.

You would imagine that he'll be sharper off the back of his latest effort and a much improved performance is anticipated.
